Designers does not settle for a final design, today would be the best but tomorrow it looks like mess and will design another.. that cycle never ends. And it will be uncontrollable since he got management powers. Looks like he also doesnt have experience with backend coding, thus, he doesnt know how to estimate his work based on the timeline... good decision for leaving, may you be able to join a better team!
-
Good for you, I got one last week, he misinterpreted “we” as my team rather than “we” as both of us can do a task done ... his ego kicked in and it went out of control, says my samples arent working.. got me irritated and jumped in the ego train. Challenged him that i can make it work in few hours.. man, that was totally messed up

@baan yes acm is mostly proving you know how to utilize datastructures to solve math/logic problems, hackathon on the other hand let you think marketable products using new techs. I’ve participated both , we won hackathon for AR last 2013 for a pokemon-like voice activated monster game.. research whos the sponsor and what is their business model, focus on that while utilizing the required tech.. IMO, this is just a company’s way of crowdsourcing for a new product. Theres fun during the event but when you win, theyll bother you to put it to prod.. at least thats my experience... tip: dont use your dream project as your hackathon entry. Its not worth it

@RantSomeWhere Lazy P inc. from
hube’s lazy Programmer(dev)
Lazy as Alice anagram (slightly)
and your Pinc.. which is then fully inspired by Alice :D -
mostly faulty cpu fan / ventilation issues

Dont loose hope. i have a fellow dev whose major in chemical engineering and a PM that is major in psychology.. if these people can get Dev jobs, then its not possible that you cant. Maybe u should start on a personal project first. Develop something markettable. Youll regret not doing this while your free, once u become a dev-for-hire, youll drown on tasks you dont like

Coogames with a coocoo bird logo like twitter

Callback nest so deep, dragons can actually lay eggs on that!
-
BTDT. Dont ever do projects for a student, its a no win situation; students usually pay less than what you expect and would casually bother you for every single shit about that project. And that’s not all, they’ll ask you to document it and be their consultant until the end of semester.
-
How old is drools? Dynamic class loading is a thing for a while now,. Shouldve implemented business rules as plugins instead.
-
“You dont choose to become a consultant, clients chooses you to become one”. Just enhance your skills and gain more experience. Specialize on a specific field and build your credentials around it like getting certifications. Goodluck to you!

@Haxk20 isnt location settings activated to all browser? Even firefox is asking whether you want to share your location and camera.
-
how about mock services? You know, those wsdl and wadl thingys that are distributed So that the front end team wont wait until the API is deployed. At least they can prepare their ws client modules. Im not sure on how deep the manager wanted it to be used, if he expects the API to do logic, then you’re right and he’s really dumb..

Learn basic accounting. Then advanced accounting. Webservices for integration with partners, owasp for web security, cryptography for data security, iso8583 for bank and switch integrations,.. most secured protocols (ssl, ipsec, vpn). Learn to increase your patience and endurance as every mistake is a cruicial one since money is involved... cryptocurrency is a plus but not required.. cheers! Wishing you all the best!

@Its-jAsE but you just uploaded a bunch of file and folders without compressing it

It depends on multiple factor, here are some:
1. if the devops runs smoothly for several years, its really hard to migrate to another technology. Not all new tech is applicable to current operations workflow
2. Experience. If a large percent of the team does not know the tech, the company wont take the additional costs for training, and if devops workload is high, learning new things is in the far part of the task
3.1 System Architecture. Ex: a server is dedicated only for one particular app/service, it has little advantage of using containers since all resources is owned by the app
3.2. Network architecture. If ftp port is the only opened, need to justify it to nw team
Maybe ask your team to own the lead to a particular project, and prove/influence them to use docker.
I've been doing R and D to use docker to our devops but still cant justify the advantages to our existing deployment protocol (using sftp) -
Aw, didnt notice that week93 is all about hacking.
-
Welcome! Maybe because you still need to establish trust with your clients.. they are a bit hesitant if you could actually finish the job or not? Or a senior/experienced alternative can deliver the same on a shorter timeline/better implementation.. sometimes you also need to have exposure on how the business scope works in order to code properly which is experienced devs has edge on. Tech Skills only applies after scope-awareness

I remember my math teacher say: a good mathematician can be a good programmer but a good programmer cant be a good mathematician.. i think this is true, if all cs teaching is based on maths, we can produce good programmers
-
@julianmd now that i'm in a management level, imo, i like our applicants to code even a basic data structure question on a piece of paper, it helps me evaluate their skills in terms of familiarity with the language and how much they know about logic unless theyre applying as a web designer ,of course ill let them code in pc.. i really dont see the problem with the paper :D
-
But.. but.. i have coded a whole galaga-like game on turbo c on bunch of yellowpaper.. no google, no syntax error just pure imagination/own logic.. since i came from a poor family with no immediate access to a computer, that was my way of improving my skills,
-
Mine was napping for few minutes then the first thing that comes to my mind is the solution to my issues
-
This was the exact thing that's happening to me, except for the baby.. sadly he(or she) didnt make it :( ... ive been giving my 120% to my job, even doing things that's out of my JD. I even participate on board discussions providing tech ideas / trainings to them as i think i was part of a bigger picture, but lately i've had a gut feeling that they're shutting me out. As if theyre telling me that at the end, im just a replacable employee.. Likewise i already did not feel that spark that runs through me for that last 8years..this past few days all i did was finish what is served, answer what is asked, do what i can to survive.. but im already dead inside.. sorry for the rant inside your rant.. to make it short, I feel you man!
-
Thank you all for a great warm welcome! I'll be posting more rants from now on

@C0D4 man! That graveyard feels. It's like "grandpa, you've done enough. I cant do anything for you. Time to call it quits. Thank you!"
