Try to automate it?

SP? SDLC?

Only a bad carpenter blames his tools.
I worked with CMake on a project some years ago. Finally getting it do what I wanted was quite the feeling. I had fun. -
Hello Gana

If you use any library (or no library) to write working code, that you get paid for, then you’re a real developer. Simple.
-
This is so retarded. Please use modern tools. And if the language is setting you back — use another language!
-
@-pthread I love how you are focusing first and foremost on not using the utility assert.True function, and about how the Boolean variables assigning is not optimized. Then comes the REAL criticism.
This is a surefire way to get the message lost in a code review. Very non-senior of you. -
You must be a delight to work with.

He kissed the girl and she seemed into it. Sounds like a win to me.

If you want to run Unix there is always macOS, you know

You should teach him how to do it better. This person seems really junior.
-
Integration tests are essential. Unit test are mostly useless, and even counterproductive when you later want to change the code.
Use best judgement. -
Don’t be so passive. You are letting people blame you (maybe to have an opportunity to rant about it?)
Yes, the sys admin seems incompetent. So show leadership next time, and tell him clearly what needs to be done. Frame it as a ‘we’: “Let’s rename the file back to its original name. This issue was caused by a faulty config file. It’s not in the domain of engineering.” Make it clear what needs to be done and who will do it. Assign no blame. If communication is direct and clear, people will understand who is to blame. Always be solution oriented. -
Using Vim to actually write code is a sure sign of a noob. For gods sake, use IntelliJ or VSCode please

@linuxxx Why make life hard for yourself, though?
-
The solution to this is to use a Mac.
We copy with Cmd+C and paste with Cmd+V.
So I don’t have my finger on Ctrl unless I’m about to kill the terminal process. -
I don’t want to start a conflict in the office. But at the same time, I cannot just stand for some pseudo-manager usurping power in his first weeks.
In the meantime, I’m working in another part of the office to avoid the situation brewing. But longterm, this is not a good solution. I also realize it’s immature.
I should probably talk to my manager about it. But I fear that we will not understand and then I have made the situation worse. -
Maybe I am misunderstanding what ‘coaching’ means. But I discussed with my manager before the coach was hired, and he assured me that we were not hiring a manager.
At the very least I should be able to ask this person to leave me alone? My stress level is through the roof. -
@linuxxx Why do you say that?
