Quality wallpaper, quality game :-)

I had a similar situation, except the developer had been there for 18 months, had worked in a previous job for a few months, and thought he was a 'mid-level' developer.....what kind of developer who works with web applications with more than 6 months experience asks this shit?!

Depends where you are in the 'food chain'. My motivation is the enjoyment of creating something of the best quality it can be, so when I say to my team those things it's because I want people to share that passion to better themselves, and not purely be motivated by money. If you are motivated to build quality systems then the money should follow, that's been my experience but others mileage may vary. To say you get paid regardless of what you produce is strange, as it's very easy to not pay someone who constantly churns out turd, by giving them the sack!
On the flip side, if the higher ups pull that shit on me I tell them what-for because it's clear they don't understand the root cause of the issue that is requiring them to spout that bull! -
@mcalooosh I know, right? It's funny because the most casually dressed people in the office are the MD and the sales guy (Mr sun shines out his arse, but constantly lands the company in the shit by misselling the product). Dressing the same way as them results in a snarky email reminding everyone of the dress code.

Our place was the same....we've managed to convince them tie optional is a good move, but apparently that's as far as it can go because it would appear the way we dress can influence clients decision on whether they buy our product or not....I would say clients who think like that are usually cunts to deal with anyway and not worth the effort. So far I've been proved right

Depends on how shit the position. I'm in a 'good' position, but I am responsible for the whole Dev team, but am powerless to actually do anything to move the team forward due to micromanagement hell, which makes it a no-win situation other than having a decent job title to add to my CV
-
@theCalcaholic I can kind of understand it with a large company, but a company of less than 50 employees the practise just seems BS
-
@penderis I think that pretty much sums up my mental state about it! But because I haven't been in this role before, I am not sure if it's normal, or what I should expect
