@alexbrooklyn I suppose I have been gone long enough to have no idea who that is. Haha
-
@PonySlaystation Hahaha sounds about right.
I actually noticed a lot of bugs this time around like as if the app hasn’t been updated in quite a while. Which got me curious on whether David was still involved in updating it. -
@AlmondSauce I’ve been seeing a few familiar faces here and there.
But I suppose that’s the story of every community, you gotta work hard to maintain it, its culture, and people. Otherwise your community evolves in unpredictable ways forming its own culture. -

Another story about something I used to do.
My client ran an e-commerce website and often complained about the speed.
After fixing the site, it was my job to prepare a performance report. Which would outline things done and results after.
After the first two times I did this, I would always send the same report over and over again to the client with the date changed. the client always appreciated their faster website. -
I once read about someone who made a website for a client. The client didn't like the placement of the logo and asked the developer to move the logo 1px to the left...
The developer just pressed the left key on the keyboard, without anything happening.
The client loved it. -
This does seem like a messy way of loading configuration file, similar to @C0D4 I too would prefer having a configuration class but bonded with a .env file.
Not only does Laravel’s approach look messy to me, it lacks context, and leads to a lot of guess work, which makes the framework seem more complicated.
But thank you all so much for clearing this out. I had absolutely no idea this was a method that could potentially be used. The first time I saw this about 4 years ago, I really thought this was some advance way of writing code and I just wasn’t there yet. But now that I think of it, it isn’t that complicated but definitely not a method I would want to use.
By the way, what are the benefits to using this method over defined Constants? I assume both need to remain unchanged... -
@dfox found it!
https://github.com/laravel/laravel/... -
@dfox I believe I saw this in Laravel. Lemme look up a reference haha.
I saw this some time ago actually, but ever now and then the thought and confusion comes back to me. So I decided to finally ask today. 😂 -
@Voxera Ah yes, how can I forget.
This will be a fun project. Haha :) -
@Voxera I’ll definitely check it out!
I started my research yesterday, and realized how incredibly difficult this project might become considering the mail infrastructure is pretty ancient.
I’m actually thinking about another approach right now, my research showed me that Email Client UI has pretty much stayed the same for a couple of decades.
Since I do have a background in Product Design, I felt like it would be a fun experiment to take on the challenge of designing an Email Client UI.
Once that’s done, I can refocus my efforts of actually making the client. Haha -
@ven4coding you know, I’ve actually been considering that! I read about it recently and it seems like a solid strategy!

We’re closing in on our second lockdown too. God, I hope we don’t have to though.

@100110111 another thing which shocks + annoys me about Laravel. There is a terminal command for a lot of basic tasks.
Like, wanna create an Auth system? Type it into a terminal and Laravel will create all the necessary code and commands for you within seconds.
Like hey, that's pretty cool but you literally just lost control. -
@100110111 I quite recently started using React JS. And it seems a bit fun, but I still prefer writing HTML and CSS over using Javascript to do it all for me.
However, I have preferred ReactNative for mobile development. Only because I am already familiar with JS. -
@N00bPancakes apart from the approval process, you get to pick when to go live.
-
@SortOfTested hahaha I guess that's how it starts.
I actually did make a sorta framework that I use for all my projects. With how I prefer to organize my code, essential functions and so on.
I tried many frameworks. It somewhat annoys me at how easy it makes things too. -
I actually made it in thr top 100?!
-
Ek baar aur 😂😂😂😂

@wiki FBI

@magicMirror hahaha not my call. I just want to get rid of this client.
sidenote: it took them two weeks to figure out that they were blocking my SSH access calls. When confronted, they blamed it on my internet. -
It’s CentOS 😒
-
@SortOfTested this is embarrassing. Haha

@SortOfTested in that case, I will assume that I am logged into someone’s cellphone...
