TIL that in iOS, when you select text with double tap, it usually selects one word, but if that word is a part of a full name, it will select the full name. For example, tapping on “react” in “react sucks” will only select “react”, but tapping on “Howard” in “Howard Lovecraft” will select the entire thing.

Now that’s attention to detail. Android will never get this kind of care, pixel or not.

Wasted a few minutes trying this out. Works for "Joe Bloggs" and "Ferdinand von Zeppelin". Doesn't work for "Ursula von der Leyen" or "Анна Павловна Шерер".

I can select Howard Lovecraft from your rant directly because Android gives users a toolbox with notable poweruser features like selecting UI text and web push, rather than optimizing 80% of workflows to hell ensuring that you'll spend 80% of your time on the remaining 20% of workflows that are just barely possible as an unintended consequence of app and OS features.

to be fair, this feature is barely supported on Android as well, each vendor exposes it differently and some disable it altogether. we desperately need a mobile OS aimed at power users where shit like this is core functionality and nuanced features like what you describe are realized in a competition of 3rd party soft keyboards made by soft keyboard experts.

You're using that stupid thing without a back button? "Back button is not needed" lmao

Very useful when you want to save it as a contact person.. You know, where you have to put the first and last name in 2 different text fields.

Yet, you are forced to copy the whole name first.

@Grumm Having separate fields for first and last name is where the problem is.

lol, just tested on Android. Does what is described here. At least in the Notes program it does. Nice feature.

Personally, I'd trade this nicety for a usable keyboard.

soo much attention to detail but it still can't have a file manager or a home screen without app list blasting on my face

@retoor next iPhone 16 launch "we are making a leap of innovation and introducing a brand new, world's first feature: a back button"

    apple nerds worldwide goes 🤯🤯🤯

    **innovation**

@dotenvironment all their apps are so inconsistent, they could never map a back button. It'll always exit or smth

    That's just stupid.
Rarget have consisted and accurate than moronic name assumption.
Personal names are super hard to isolate or have roles on. When I type my gf's name in a form it usually gets mangled because stupid people assume that a name always starts a single capital. Well hers happens to start with a digraph that needs to be capitalized in our language.

Edit: thanks @donkulator you proved already how broken this shit is.
