Seeing posts about standards vs implementation of compilers. People not getting that "standards release" != "vendor release" for C++ compilers.

Is it just my perception or is everyone here all of a sudden getting unhinged? I don't ever remember this many regulars just going off on each other like they do now. I do feel anxious myself lately.
I am thinking for my own sanity to take a leave for a while.12 -
Microtransactions are ruining the AAA gaming industry. I have always liked a good fighting game. So I looked at Street Fighter 6. Base game is $60, better version is more, bestest version is way more. Plus from reading reviews the fucking game is riddled with microtransactions.
What happened to buying a fucking game and not feeling like you got ripped off? When you bought the fucking game you got the whole fucking game.
I am disgusted with what these big names are doing. Ruining a once less sketchy industry.
I have even seen games that start out good. Then after a few patches they introduce the microtransaction bullshit. The Conan games are like that. The main complaint is adding this bullshit for base game items.
I wonder how they think this is good for their player base. They just fired the dude at Unity over trying to fuck over customers. Of course the company cannot be trusted so a lot of bigger labels are jumping ship to other engines.
What kinda pisses me off is I will try and find a decent game on Steam and look and look and all I find is garbage. How did Steam turn into such a trash heap? I won't touch an EA game (which is where that CEO from Unity came from). It is too bad because I really liked Mass Effect.
tldr - gaming has turned into shit.8 -
I had high ideals when I started working here. The entire code base was practically devoid of comments. Its been 5 years and it is still practically devoid of comments. I have become like them...7

There is a guy I work with that seems to dish out and receive a lot of pranks. There have been a couple of times that I have scared him by making a cat like noise: "pssst". Anytime I see him in the hall way or outside I always pssst at him and he responds back with a pssst. It has been quite entertaining for the both of us.
So he was walking down the hallway and was a bit ahead of me. So I made the pssst noise. He had already gone around the corner. I come around the corner and he is dancing up and down struggling. He finally makes the pssst noise. He told me he was trying not to make the pssst noise, but he just had to. That was a last week.
So today I asked him: "Do you have pssst traumatic stress disorder?"2 -
I have two knees. They could be considered to be brothers to each other.
So do I have "knee bros" or "bro knees"?3 -
November is coming up. That means no mental illness month. Absolutely no front end or JS shit all month. Because it is going to be officially:
"No Nutjob November"
So keep your AOK ass to yourself in November!
(AOK, if you see this, we miss you!)5 -
Seriously wtf? I wanted to play a new game. So I found Elden Ring on sale. But the first 30 minutes in the game is video/cutscenes so far. How can that reasonably be considered game play if it counts against the 2 hours of trial period? I don't play Skyrim in 3rd person, but I like that I can switch in and out to look at things.
I didn't like the feel of the combat system and I didn't like that it locked the 3rd person view. I hate playing in 3rd person as it is nearly always janky. How can that game be that popular with no option for 1st person?
I must be getting old. If a game doesn't feel the way I like, I bail on it. It has been this way with the last 3 or 4 Steam games I tried. Is it me, or has gaming in general gone to shit? I want an RPG with simple open world aspects, a non locked storyline that you can do if you want, maybe a vast generated world, and the ability to build things. I like FFX, but it takes a while to unlock "do what you want mode". It has party/character development, but no building.
I feel like the 2 hour trial period is too short. Not enough time to give the game a chance. I would have stuck it out if it gave me more time. I bailed because of janky 3rd person. Not enough time to get used to it imo.
I would rather play older titles I can trust to be fixable than new games. I am seeing people who play Skyrim come back to playing Skyrim after trying Starfield for a month. That is not a good sing for Starfield.
Maybe I just know what I want and have no time to be fucking around with new takes on game play. It is funny. I have 3 or 4 games I bought on sale from Steam that I have never played. Or played very little. I played Wild Hunt for like an hour and never played again. I didn't refund that one because I will get around to it, but I don't know when.8 -
Talking to another coworker today:
me: Have you ever looked at a coworker and realized they are Halloween ready?
coworker: <laughing> Some people are ready all year round!
(side note: I feel like devrant needs a test before people can post here. The paper bag challenge should be enough I think.)1 -
Conversation I had with a coworker today:
me: When transferring an object from C++ to QML you have to set the parent of the object. If you don't QML thinks it can just delete this object.
coworker: So if you don't set the parent of the object then the orphans get Anakined?
me: Yes1 -
My coworker said his EBS test notification went off 2 minutes early.
I told him he should talk to the doctor about that.
(I did actually tell my coworker this) -
I mean Ruby has four letters and Rust has four letters. We do have the Just Stupid shirts though...4

So when someone chooses the type of rant as "devrant", are they thinking the other rant types will end up on some other website?
Maybe the rant type should say: "devrant (meta)"5
