Something that's rarely explored in the fantasy genre: wizards must smell awful.

if you buy wool / cotton clothes they don't smell (or rather I'm unsure how long it would be until it smells cuz I got hoodies made of these and I seem to be able to wear them for months)

granted, fleas love to live in wool clothes so there's that
