w4tsn33837yI really like the team idea behind companies so I don't have to do all the things poorly that I'm not specialised in.
I'm working in a startup and I can't wait to hire the first specialists because I simple don't have the 10 required arms with different number of fingers reuqired todo all the fields at once. -
I'd never thought of an employer as a service provider to outsource all the stuff and I'm not good at. Definitely makes sense if you see this that way.

It's certainly personal, and some people will be more of a "natural" in all the social logistics, bureaucratic formfilling and conversational trickery needed to be the boss of a single person company.
You can of course outsource some of it for a small fee, even as a freelancer. Plenty of companies who run support or collect debts... a friend of mine even runs a company which just plays the product owner scrum role, per project, in between clients and freelancers.
I personally just prefer to be on a permanent contract with a fixed salary and holidays... although I do put up some fences on the borders of responsibilities, and hammer flyers to the trees with the laws of my little kingdom within the company empire.
PO has a vaguely defined project? I don't care about your deadline, go refine your ideas, in the mean time I'll watch some course videos and drink your expensive espresso. -
Wombat102447yI think there are pros and cons on both sides. And rants from both sides show me that I can have a laugh about both of them.

w4tsn33837y@AlexDeLarge @bittersweet @Divisionbyzero in fact I just realized that I like startups in the 2 - 5 years time frame because I'm somewhat my own boss then with some responsibility, I have a team and switching due to low hidden knowledge is still fairly easy while I don't have to care about e.g. sales and marketing that much.
When I get bored or annoyed I finish my project with docs and stuff and then I'm out. -
@justwellbrock Physically and professionally I'm in my 30s, socially and emotionally I'm 3.

The fact that this week's rant topic exists is the exact reason I never do freelance work. It always ends in horror.
I don't believe good fullstack devs exist. A good junior will assess their talents/passions and specialize to become a senior. They'll keep checking the rest of the market from the corners of their eyes and start moving when necessary. But eventually, focus and specialization is a must.
If that's true for the field of development... why would I invest time in marketing, support, sales, PR, legal?
Maybe you can earn a bit more gross income in freelance work — but I see my employer as a service provider, I "hire" them so I don't have to manage phone calls, lose sleep over court cases, play product owner or worry about getting paid.
