What computer should I buy?

I hate macs. Lenovo + archlinux had ZERO issues so I would like to stay with that.

I bought three x270 because they were the last ones with removable battery (I used to have 4 and 24 hours autonomy), but the cpu is getting old (4th gen, still pretty usable but showing its limits on heavily nomad use).

I watched the thinkcenter, but I would lose mobility and they are not cheap. I have max 500 euros. Sad that the website doesn't have anymore x270 :( I guess @retoor bought them all.

Or maybe I could stay with a T? Can I upgrade the cpu on those?

    I think I have a psychological problem with buying a desktop. It means I'm done now. I'm settled. I'm not a nomad anymore, I'm a grandpa ;'(

x270 works fine, why would I change. I can still source a couple on amazon

on the other hand, with a desktop I could have a gpu

@antigermanist I want to buy either X395 for such tasks. And in general, for laptops of those times, I think it is better to look towards AMD processors

If you want positive change in life, buy a Mac. Otherwise buy whatever and enjoy arch linux

I could recommend skikk. Cheap, works ootb, linux-friendly by design. I've got green5 maxxed out in specs [way over your budget tho]. Plastics aren't the strong suit, but the guts are amazing.

@netikras I would but i just got married and i have taxes to pay.

So i'll just take an used thinkstation.

@retoor you still have yours :( I miss mine a lot. Can't believe it got stolen with all my album. My heart died then.

@antigermanist there are other laptops at skikk, cheaper too :)

@retoor i tried remarkt this time but there is only x280 and they do not have removable battery :(

But I think i'll buy a think station. If I move away I could still give it to my mum and use it as a server or something.

Imagine that, I never bought a desktop. Always lappy. I had desktop when I was a kid ofc.

@retoor fair point. But I do need to travel to dublin from time to time for work and I don't always have a plug

@retoor idk 😁 prolly no. I'm still flirting with the idea of an external thunderbolt gpu. If I eventually bite the bullet and it pans out, then hands down I'd stick with nongpu laptops

@retoor your screen looks like a tablet 😁 my nf210 seemed like that 😁 ant it's a netbook from the day when 1G rsm was enough for it all.

My prev laptop was an xps13 with 4k touchscreen. I miss 4k and touch. The only devices I've seen contain more on the screen were TVs. And still not all of them.

Even though my right eye is weaker, I loved the high-res screen.

My green5 has 3k or so. I try to convince myself it's enough. Considering it's also a 13inch screen.
