@inaba I have that one too. Any connetivity issue on your laptop? I was unfortunate enough to end up with a realtek wifi card and run into any sorts of problems.

cuz people are stupid lol they don't understand the L3 cache, or such details, i rather like to get a 4 CPU machine at 3.6ghz instead of a 16cpu at 2.2 ghz, but they are too idiot to know that most programs are single threaded.

I've had issues since the beginning only I didn't know: I could connect and all but, on average, my wifi speed was slower than that of other, less performing or outdated laptops. Then it started: I first experienced connectivity problems on linux (Manjaro) and finally the card just gave up a couple of weeks ago.

The biggest surprise, however, came with the realization that Lenovo had whitelisted the wifi cards one could use with their beloved product. And all of them seem to have an equally bad reputation. I decided to go with the lesser evil by buying an intel one (still waiting for it!). I didn't want to risk patching the BIOS.

Just out of curiosity, which wifi network card was your y50-70 shipped with?

It always hurts to see people buying these shitty laptops, wasting lots of money on a product that's much weaker than a PC and will break after 2-4 years.

And for wireless it's "intel wireless 3160" according to lspci

@inaba ahahahaha yes! Hardware is amazing that way. I bought the wifi card your pc has, it is said to be best amongst the whitelisted ones. We will see about that :)

Although most people don't need such powerful laptops, those who do, should receive them for free from their companies. (freelancers are a different thing of course)

Pretty sure one of the XPS 15s has a 1050Ti and still looks normal. Apart from that, I imagine it has something to do with the added weight that the bulk enables as well as thermal dissipation.

For what it's worth, some of the Asus "gaming" notebooks of late aren't too bad. Still keep the aggressive design, but you don't feel *that* embarrassed to pull it out at work.

I still prefer the xps series. Minimalistic but powerful. (well not for graphics)

these kind of thick laptops are all designed by CLEVO, in Taiwan.
Alienware right now just a sticker brand.

They are thick because they are using standard desktop cpu such as I7 8700K
, great graphic card like GTX1070 and more importantly, they are using more efficient cooling system like double fan.
These features are all designed for gaming but also gonna be super chunky heavy and looks very ugly.

Man try XPS 15 9560 (or wait for 9570) or try Precision M5520, they are looking awasome, they are expensive a little, but they worth the price

Get an ultrabook and use an eGPU as a docking station if you need the graphics power.

Best of both worlds.

I have an HP with a gtx 1050 that dosen't look like an alien space ship... there are plenty "gaming laptop" that dosen't look like shit, you just gotta search :)
