Making an app for people to share secrets/confessions, told a friend, first reaction was: why would I want to share my secrets?

App dead

Btw here’s the logo

    Like post secret?

@lungdart yeah but with a bit social element to it, so it’s not just one directional

Like I’ve spent a long time thinking about representation, how can I let people share something without the feeling of exposed, how can I make people who are curious about others need to spend some time to access other people’s content, without interaction between those two, and I had a fucking genius implementation. But now I’m questioning whether I’m creating a need that nobody wants

If its anonymous it would be used to trade secret info for illegal activities. Like arrange meetups with trafficked people or something.
  • 1
@Demolishun well it’s only anonymous on the front end, the info sent to front end is still not encrypted

@K-ASS so funny story. There was/is a website that only posts stuff for like 1 day or for a few hours and then deletes. Politicians were using it to send messages to each other and thought they were "safe" from being caught. The whole time these messages were being recorded by the NSA. I think a lot of the messages were actual illegal activities. I think this was nearly 10 years ago. Still makes me laugh.

@Demolishun lmao, maybe I should make this app after all

4chan and other "-chans" already exist.

@iiii yeah, but a bit different

I like the logo. But don‘t tell anyone. It’s a secret.

@Demolishun Not unless it's crypto-anonymous. A fake Facebook profile is supposedly anonymous but they'll just give out your IP to anyone who asks firmly so it's only used to organize pogroms.
  • 1
That looks like a fun niche, I'd give it a shot.

@Demolishun The story about that site actually reminds me of how Microsoft managed to ban a lot of people on modded Xbox consoles back in the day.

People w/ dual bank chips were thought to be undetectable, as long as they would stay offline using modded FW && use the original FW when going online.

It was around the time when Halo 2 was supposed to be released.

IIRC it got leaked quite ahead of the release date, too.

Anyway, MS would check the consoles for the existence of Halo 2's save data.

If you have it && the game hasn't been released, yet, obviously you have a modded console == ban.

Had a good laugh when I heard about it.

/* !saying that it was MS themselves that leaked the game, though.

No clue who made the early release. */

I'm about to steal your avatar stuff. Will make a few changes, color adjustable for example.
  • 2
Lame, compiled version on your github. I just saved the avatars and let AI generate an avatar generator based on 20 avatars I saved from from yours :P What a time to be alive.

Needed some manual adjustments but it became nice. Thanks! You deserve a beer. Buy one.

    @retoor

    > You deserve a beer. Buy one.

    Lol 😂

this is actually a good idea for dating btw. because sharing intimate details like that is gonna make people close real fast
  • 2
@Demolishun i've never seen people confessing illegal things. if you find something like that again I'd be interested
  • 3
@jestdotty I think they thought they were secretly arranging things. Not confessing.

@iiii well check the image I put in the comment, it kinda encrypts the message by shifting pixels, this way anyone who wants to access the secret needs to have the correct key to rearrange the pixels. Thus I’m creating an illusion that my secret is safe, and whoever wants to access it needs to spend some time, making my secret not entirely exposed to public, but still publicly available. Once accessed, you can comment/judge, do whatever you want, but the op knows the commenter indeed want to know what’s going on not just some random add

@retoor yo this is outdated, and only in the center? Pfff, throw that beer and get back to work
  • 1
@Demolishun would be interesting to add a utility to expose/destroy your post after certain days.
  • 2
@K-ASS go back to work yourself and open source it for real this time 😁 Yeah it's weird that it doesn't notice that it's often not in center and I have a newer version and it skews and stuff, has better eyebrow and more mouths. I trained it now with 50 of your pictures. I like it.

But maybe I'm going for country balls. Or both? Hmm. It's for a chat app and I'm not sure about audience yet, how playful I want it or businessy. Should look at rocket chat, that's the loser app I'm replacing.
  • 1
    @retoor I didn’t realize it’s not open sourced lmao

@K-ASS you can do the same on "chans". What is fundamentally different?
  • 0
@iiii ah, not sure, but then whatever Chan can do you can do it in Reddit too, so who knows, user will find a way. There are already people saying they can use the pixel shift thing for adult content sharing since it’s not immediately exposed
  • 0
@K-ASS yeah, that's what i'm telling: forums and forum-like entities already allow posting encrypted messages, and chans specifically are anonymous by design
  • 1
@jestdotty you can confess illegal things to your pastor, if you feel the need.
