My 5 year old computer starts Visual Studio in 16 seconds. HDD is also 5 years old. You might do something wrong...

You should try intellij for a higher record. You won't be disappointed

Really? I think you have a problem.. My laptop loads it in like 10 seconds..

I'm with @Lahsen2016 and @alohen on this one.. 10 seconds is unacceptable.

I know it isn't doing the same fancy indexing and intellisense mapping, but half the reason I like basic editors like VIM and Sublime Text are how quick and responsive they are

@Furyzer00 Takes 10 seconds on my laptop equipped with SSD

wtf 5 mins is too quick 😮
it takes ~15 minutes to load startup page and another 10 minutes to load projects

@Lahsen2016 oh, so it wasn't actually 5 minutes? Of course I realise it was an exaggeration. :) I'm just saying the actual time it needs to start up isn't that bad, even on my slightly above average spec laptop. Yes, it could be faster. But it's not like those couple of seconds will make a difference (And that's coming from someone who's almost always short on time) You don't start up VS every few minutes I assume? People today, everything has to be 'now'.

I can only hope when I graduate and start developing RL projects that clients are a bit more patient. But judging by my current experience and the stories here that's probably very naive and the opposite will more than likely be true..

    Because of electron...

Dont forget to disable the blinking cursor. Otherwise it will eat yor RAM

My work laptop (i7 7th gen,16gb ram, ssd) loads it in less than 10 seconds, some people think that its too much, but since it saves my time auto creating all the boilerplate code and auto configure everything, I think that its acceptable.

@d4rkmindz you know that electron has nothing to do with VS right?
  • 1
@usethedocsluke wait, I thought Vscode was built on top of Electron

It loads less than few seconds on my laptop. You have something wrong with your plugins or something.

@orkhanfarmanli You're right about VS Code. I'd rather call it an advanved text editor than an IDE. My previous laptop had pretty slow performance with Visual Studio, I was using a sh*tload of extension, though it never took more than 40 seconds to start. If that would be the case for VSCode, nobody would use it because simply it's not acceptable.

@Prophetcrysis I also have SSD which even Windows boots in less than 10 seconds. However intellij takes 30 seconds
