Maybe the thumbnails if your folder options are set not to display "hidden" files?

The solution is: Windows not always detects file changes while you're selecting those files. It's a little bug. In school we did this with the school's FTP server. The teacher selected 12 folders and we deleted and reuploaded them. The teacher's computer said that there were 15 selected files. When there were just 12.

Hidden Desktop.ini file? (Holds current folder customizations, hidden by default but if you ctrl-a or select all it gets selected).
