They host the servers. Last I checked that doesn't mean they have access to the data.

So you think Microsoft looks att youre data more than github? I don't think so. They might collect more telemetri but they don't look in private repos... Public repos is open for all so if they look it's no issue.. it's open for all to read. Public repos in gitlab is the same.

I think that the issue in the post is that Microsoft earn money... Using a service from Microsoft.
