    @Alice +1

    It's got the compability, doesn't need much work to set up, but otherwise is annoying as hell.

    Looking forward to switch over to Linux again soon, but not sure what distro I want yet.

    @Alice Imagine...Triple boot...and all OSs are Windows🀯
  • 2
    @jonii Talk about Windows Updates huh?
  • 3
    @Alice I know. That’s why I said „imagine“. But yes, Windows is a hate/love kind of relationship
  • 1
    @S-Homles πŸ˜‚

    I won’t even ask why, because that question is pointless. TRIPLE BOOT WINDOWS, that’s why
  • 2
    @DuckDuckWent These in particular, but also a lot of other stuff, can't remember anything, but I remember being angry at Windows.

    @S-Homles I understand why XP, but why 98?
  • 2
    @jonii the quirks of windows can be a little annoying at times. Just a little
  • 1
    @S-Homles :’)
  • 1
    @mrtn Using macOS as well and I agree
  • 3
    Fedora
    love: the package manager, all that linux stuff like configuration, custom wms, the terminal.
    hate: packages that are only available for aur or apt and not as a rpm
  • 1
    @gitreflog Fedora is among my linux distros I want to try out someday
  • 2
    Xubuntu.

    I like that I can have it up and running super quick. I already left behind the young-self need to tweak every minor detail of my system, I don't have time for that shit anymore. Also I've been attached to apt for too long now to switch to another package manager.

    I don't like it looks old. I mean, is effective but looks like I'm still in 2002.
  • 2
    MacOS and Manjaro..

    Both nice and pretty stable..
  • 3
    im with @Alice

    I use windows, i love how compatible everything in existence is with it and i hate the fact that windows 10 is a hunk of shit, it started of good... but every update appears to be a step backwards every time and becoming more unstable.
  • 1
    @antorqs I see what you mean
  • 1
    @just8littleBit Can't go wrong with that
  • 2
    @C0D4 That's where macOS excels, got pretty good compatibility and is very stable. But Windows is great, when it works
  • 1
    @theNSA Very nice.
  • 4
    Ubuntu. Because: ROS.
    Tbh I've grown very fond of it and feel rather powerless on windows.
    What I don't like about it... hm. That I can't game on it (League of Legends).
  • 3
    @hasu I gave up most of gaming when I moved away from Windows as main OS. Now I’m more productive..but still, it’s kind of lacking
  • 5
    Debian 9 + LXDE πŸ”₯♥️

    @S-Homles πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ very true

    @-BSD classic

    @notroot nice πŸ‘

    Windows. Windows update changing/adding privacy settings is getting really annoying though...
  • 0
    Linux mint w/ cinnamon. Love the eyecandy and stability, linux toolset is something I can't survive without, no mysterious/magic stuff happening to annoy me. It just works.

    The drawback... Umm.. Systemd. And a lack of ability to reliably encrypt [luks] partitions w/o losing data.
  • 1
    Antergos with GNOME. Pretty stable, no problems yet. Been using for sometime now. Being able to use AUR πŸ•Ί
  • 0
    KDE neon.
    πŸ‘ Sexy af, customisable, well supported and good community
    πŸ‘Ž Buggy sometimes, not exactly lightweight

    @jayMcD Freedom! Wooho
  • 0
    @netikras there’s always a drawback...
  • 0
    @daemonAD nice combo, Windows still is premier for gaming
  • 0
    @malphas You have all the options though, a combination of both will definitely get any job done
  • 0
  • 1
    @retnikt not lightweight, but surely looking nice hahaha

    Windows 7.

    Hate that it will be gone in less than 2 years... Time catches up to all of us. I only wished that I spent more time with it back in its glory days instead of wasting my time on one meaningless night stands with those promiscuous Linux distros... Can anyone feel my pain? Can anyone feel my sorrow?
  • 1
    Windows 10 with the Ubuntu bash for lots of dev stuff... but actually I would love win7 + bash cause I hate the inconsistencies in win 10 and except the bash it hasn't brought much good stuff..
  • 1
    Windows 10: I hate design inconsistency due to legacy UIs, closed-sourceness and hardware makers that break your system with half assed drivers.

    Debian: best distro logo. I fucking hate when something breaks and it takes me a day to fix it.

    I just realized I don't really love any OS.

    Ubuntu 18.04
    ❀️ Not too easy not too hard to use, perfect balance for me
    ❀️ Open Source
    πŸ’€ Can't use some softwares, Adobe After Effects, Unity

    OSX. Best of UI and Linux
  • 0
    KDE Neon; Linux. Love the interface, stability, speed and the ability to have loads of terminals and a beautiful UI at the same time.

    Cons: haven’t discovered those yet myself.

    Been using Fedora for about 16 years now. The last other OS i used was Microsoft ® Windows ® XP Professional. Have dabbled a little in Arch (ducks for cover), Debian et. al and even FreeBSD. Main os is Rawhide installed on my Dell Inspiron, which i use for everything from Music production to coding Android apps and building my web projects. Even made a music video on it. See here my musings: shaji.in

    For interoperability with muggles, I keep an Office 2007 install on Wine handy.

    @scroach bash is great, absolutely agree. Win10 has some quirks
  • 0
    @Snatched Right? I mean some of the system settings still haven’t been updated to have the current styling, and it’s been out for years. You could try dual boot and take advantage of each OSs strengths, in theory...
  • 0
    @HAliPunjabi That’s indeed what really annoys me about most Linux distros and keeps me from using them
  • 1
    @pnpninja it’s such a nice combination, isn’t it? And with the compatibility too
  • 0
    @rEaL-jAsE Games, the reason everyone needs Windows lol.

    @lunorian nice config

    Parrot sec because it s sexy with mate and got kali tools perfect for school, windows arium for games and arch for freetime πŸ€“
  • 1
    Linux mint (thinking about switching to manjaro or somethin) for work.
    Windows for home and gaming
  • 1
    Windows 10.
    Like: most things are plug'n'play, music software works great, games, pretty intuitive in the most parts
    Dislike: 2 different control panels, slow search, registry is a mess, permissions are also a mess, dont care that much for most of the layout

    Windows on my gaming machine, Ubuntu at work and macOS on my private laptop. There are pros and cons to all of the systems, but to be honest I enjoy Windows the least. It just doesn't feel right working without terminal or vim installed by default. After working on Ubuntu and macOS for a while I really started feeling like Windows is too bloated with useless crap and UIs for everything that I can just do 10x faster through the terminal. On the other hand I can't imagine gaming on anything other than Windows. All games just work without any problems and that's exactly what I need after a long day at work :D

    In the end any OS is just a tool and there are use cases for all the tools. You wouldn't drill a hole with a hammer.

    @Tayo i'm too noob for this, how you will do this ? Something like katoolin for arch ? πŸ˜“
  • 0
    Arch all the way.
    Love:
    - Package-Management
    - Rolling-Release (I like updates)
    - You start of with a minimal system and decide what you need for yourself
    Hate:
    - Haven't had much issues yet.

    Linux Mint

    Love: Almost everything except...

    Hate: No Windows games and cant use Visual Studio
  • 1
    @DuckDuckWent ah, I usually have a triple boot with W10/Debian and a third Linux distro which is more on a rotation. Been using Fedora a lot.

    @Guillaumez impressive triple boot
  • 0
    @prefixaut Classic config. You just cant get around windows for games..
  • 0
    @musician pros and cons I guess. What music do you make?
  • 1
    @418-teapot You could hammer a hole...πŸ˜‚
  • 0
    @TheSilent That’s good to hear, even though Ive heard Arch can be quite a pain to set up?
  • 1
    @merc4christ Compatibility is just something windows excels at. Same problem here, even though I primarily use macos
  • 1
    @shaji For the people who don't understand that libreoffice/countless online rich text editors are a thing huh?
  • 1
    @DuckDuckWent pop/jazz/funk/audiobooks recordings and some electronic stuff as well

    @DuckDuckWent Only if you don't follow the wiki carefully. It's actually pretty easy. The only problem I had the first time was setting up the partitions in the commandline, but that was just me being dump.

    You definitively need to familiarize yourself with the command line do pull it of. You learn a lot in the process, don't expect to be ready to go in half an hour the first time you do it though.

    @Tayo thank you very much πŸ˜‰
  • 0
    @DuckDuckWent i got 3 pc 😁
  • 0
    @TheSilent Hm. Interesting. One day I’ll try it, when I have time
  • 0
    @Guillaumez In the meanwhile, I’m sitting here with a 9 year old Mac, thinking „that must be nice“. Though it still runs pretty well for its age and specs
  • 0
    @DuckDuckWent yep. I personally love Google docs and use it anywhere i can
  • 1
    @musician plenty of apps to make music on Linux. Take a look at https://linuxmusicians.com/
    LinuxMusicians - Index page
  • 1
    @shaji yeah but for a big professional studio which relies on certain software/hardware its not an option. At least not with my setup.
  • 2
    @DuckDuckWent I gave up most of it but I still like to occasionally play League. And I keep windows for a few other programms aswell as dual boot.
