hjk10156966yMary & Kate, if it's two servers pretending to be one.
Mary-Kate & Ashley, if your pool is homogeneous.
Alice 1 .. ∞, when your cluster has evil residents. -
Wow, so many comments... It's gonna take a while to go through all these. I'll keep you posted
-
The problem is now that many suggestions are not within the constraints (like the gender of names)
Therefore i am thinking to pass through all comments and rate them with a weighted system. 3 weights for all conditions let, 2 for 2/3 conditions, and so on.
This would mean that e.g. @fuckwit would get (at time of writing) 20 * 3 points, thus 60.
@AlexDeLarge suggestion is highly popular, but since disease names are genderless by default, it gets only 2 points of weight. This would still mean it's on the lead with 62 * 2 points since both are STD's .
That being said, i really, really should have put another condition preventing angry grumpy german superranters to submit suggestions... I don't want STD's in my infra... Oh well, for next time.
I'll go and prepare some bootstrap scripts.... -
Ok, this took a while to compile... And oh boy i am kinda overwhelmed by the responses. But we have to put something in that bootstrap script so...
Remember, i needed to implement a weight system since there were various types of entries. see my previous comment.
@AlexDeLarge wins the popular vote with 63, hurray for everyone getting STD's! They are a duo since they are both STD's and when you got one, you usually get the other one as well as a free gift (or so i have been told, i'm clean). but not female names since disease names are by default genderless. 2 (out of 3 weights) * 63 = 126 -
@paranoidAndroid has the runner up popular vote with 43, i personally like this one, but i am unsure if the names should count as female. This might be up for debate since "GlaDOS" is by origin a female worker at aperture science labs by the name of Gladys. "Chell" on the other hand might be too neutral? I'd want to give it 3/3 weights, but i have to be fair and also just grant it 2/3, resulting in... 86, if it were "chelly" though...
a tie! for the third popular vote between @fuckwit and @CaptainJuers, both complying to all three conditions...resulting in both 3 * 20 ... 60
This means that "The Angriest ranter of the internet" wins.
That being said some personal favorites and honorable mentions:
@jonii 's comment made me think too hard of that talking ballsack functioning like the orange mouthpiece sean hannity, good jab, but no... -
@Alice kept it cute, alas, cuteness is not in store for these new slaves
@Irithyll 's comment is GOLD! Epic WTF series, but alas, it's a niche.
@1989 's entry was intriguing, have not heard about those twins and now they gave me a laugh, thans for that cultural recommendation and the wiki page
@riovista , i had seen that coming, and i know that if i name them so, they will crash way too soon, and i don't want to be held accountable for burning down a datacenter.
@endor and @ArcaneEye 's entry is a classic for it's reference to the greek classics. Clytemnestra is really uncommon now and you only know that name if you have studied greek history or literature. -
@Michelle is very creative indeed and the names from her second manuscript are quite to my liking!
@Paramite chose nice G'names, it happen to be names of people i know and am fond of.
@Reffins , Re:Zero is hilarious indeed! good taste!
@ceee 's entry i hoped to have more voters for, what happened to honoring all greek mythology and history but not dionysos?
@squid 's entry is original and i like it, i'll add it to the list of VM hostnames -
@datawraith it's been so long ago i kicked of from digital meth, that i didn't get the WoW reference at first, but indeed, a large potential pool of names from that universe!
In the end. thnx again you damn filthy ranter... now my infra will be deliberately infected...
Well, guess i do bootstrapping now... -
@NeatNerdPrime I have to admit, when I reay "Syphillis and Clamydia" I had to admit that it's better than my entry.

Naming contest:
These two 'new' servers need hostnames.
Names must be within the following constraints:
* Names must be female
* Names must be pronouncable and writable in ASCII standard set of characters.
* Names are preferred to reference to duo's, like sisters, twins, dynamic duo's like chip and dale, but female.
Previous servers were name 'tairu' & 'mairu' (heroic age) and 'karen' & 'tsukihi' (nisemonogatori)
Let's see if the devrant community can surprise me.
