@Alice It’s mostly because of my limited budget and in some cases not looking at reviews and stuff enough.
As for the iPhone, that was solely an economical decision which I highly regret. I don’t even have my mail on here because I don’t trust to enter my password on this system.
@AleCx04 howso? Do you know what I need to do to mostly lock google out?
@Stuxnet (just bought it from gearbest so delivery next week hopefully) the Oukitel K10! -
tokumei21256yI'm in a similar situation as you; ended up with a Galaxy S7 after an old but faithful LG G3, but Verizon is a fucking asshole when it comes to custom ROMs. No other model of the S7 except the Verizon (and maybe some other Qualcomm models) have the issues I'm facing.
First, in download mode, I was prompted with "Secure Download enabled". This means that any image that isn't signed from the OEM will fail an integrity check, so no luck there.
I checked online, and some people have been able to use other exploits to flash custom recoveries and kernels, but their phone gets soft-bricked (at best) because the primary bootloader, whose fuse has been burned to make it read-only, checks the integrity of the secondary bootloader.
WTAF Verizon. Needless to say, once I can pay for my own plan, I'm not getting it from them. -
@linuxxx from past posts my dude you do waaaaay more than I do. All I have to do is get a phone :P
-
@linuxxx sounds like a scam lmao, your phone would litteraly have to be a 7 inch device thats 3-4cm thick for this size of battery...
-
tokumei21256y@Torbuntu I mean, it's technically neither AOSP's nor the phone manufacturer's fault; they have no reason to lock their phones. It is the OEM who deals with tech support all the time and makes the decision to lock them, which honestly, still makes less sense than voiding the support warranty (which I would totally be fine with). If you can find something other than VZW/TMobile in your area (maybe Ting who lets you bring your own unlocked phone IIRC), then do it.
-
@tokumei There's gotta be one of those companies that piggybacks the 4 "major" carries (Sprint, Verizon, USCellular and AT&T).

@Linuxxx *drags out soldering iron* "Hold on cowboy, I gonna weld ya the device of your dreams! Gonna smash in some lead acid batteries, some 4k retinized finger screen and all the radio transmission capabilities yo want, a handfull of DDR4 modules and an M.2 NVMe SSD on 10k RPM.
Come back in a few days when I'm finished, son." 😉 -
dr-ant13446y@linuxxx 11000mAh?! Did you buy a powerbank with a touchscreen and sim slot and a little magic?!
I can't believe they make this kind of stuff. I'm so envious right now and it's wierd because now that they make it I want it too. (scumbag brain) -
@AleCx04 If most phones wouldn’t come preinstalled with malware, I wouldn’t have to do as much ;)
-
donuts236726y@tokumei I'm on TMobile but I always use my own phone. Does buying a phone from them make it cheaper?
-
tokumei21256y@billgates Not in my experience, lots of phones get marked up if you buy them from the carrier store, especially if they're older - you could pay $480 for an S7 from Verizon or $250 for the same model, brand new, on Amazon. Even taking into account that they're usually preloaded with a SIM from VZW and easier to ensure that it can be activated on their network (some unlocked phones can't), that's still pretty hefty.
-
donuts236726y@tokumei I think all that's needed is to make sure the phone supports they're baseband like GSM or CDMA.
Or I guess you look at the phones in their store and just buy it online.
The only setting that I've had to change is the APN. Got a FreedomPop SIM yesterday. They said need to update the APN manually but for my OPO, I just put in the SIM and it figured it out itself....
Usually for this, if it doesn't work, just Google it.

Since my one plus is gone and I can’t stand my fucking iPhone I finally bought a new phone.
Couldn’t find a new one with my required specs which was compatible with Lineage but at least found this rootable one so I can block any google app from reaching the outside.
The specs though 😍
