I recently bought a XPS 15 and it came with Windows, but I'm thinking of putting Linux instead and maybe have a Windows VM.. I love Linux for dev and customization but Windows is just easy to game on. What is your experience on gaming on Linux ?

I don't think gaming in a VM is going to be the best experience. You're better off just dual booting Linux and Windows, that way you can choose which one you go into on boot. That's what I do on mine anyway :)

I game on Linux. The majority of the games I play run natively on linux, and the majority of the windows games that don't are fully functional with wine. The rest(mostly big-dick AAA games that don't really hold my attention anyway) I can play with parsec.

As a gamer, I have no complaints with linux.

I had a Dell XPS 15 that I immediately put Linux on when I got it. If you're into indie games, there's plenty of Linux stuff on Steam/Humblebundle. I personally just have a separate Windows gaming laptop. I recently did an upgrade video for it:

Biggest problem with the Dell XPS 15, or at least mine, were thermals. I do a lot of intense dev work and hit some throttling issues. Dave2D covers some of the cooling/throttling issues in his review videos.

@bananabread with Linux as host you can setup GPU passthrough and it appears it's not that bad from what I've heard

@olback @pionell I've seen those videos and that's what got me thinking I should try. I wanted to have some user feedback before

It's a high-fidelity streaming system for playing games on a remote computer in real-time.
