I want to learn a scripting language, and can't decide which one.
Python, Ruby, Lua, something completely different ?
I want to hear your opinions.

    besides that,
from this three learn python, it’s in most popular linux distributions and used everywhere ex. as blender scripting language. If you want to be a better developer learn some functional language.

Lua is intended to be embedded into another program, so learn Python.

Huge fan of perl. If you can see past the bad rap it gets from people today, it'll be the strongest tool you have.

Node.js, or Dart. Of course there are Python, PHP and friends, but I like those two better.

If you just want to script your system, then I also would recommend Perl. If you want to write further software in that language I think Python would be the one. Or try something else and use Elixir.
