So far VLC has never failed me in functional area. On Android as well it is descent enough. It's just that we now expect more eye candy on mobile devices.
-
@Artemix It just often feels counter-intuitive and makes me tap a lot more than I should. MX Player was much better for me back when I used it.
-
My problem with the VLC android app is I have no idea what all those icons mean without tapping all of them.

Condor323326y@Artemix here I use MX Player Pro on Android. Proprietary if memory serves me right, but it's pretty good! Meanwhile on Windows and Linux I really like SMPlayer with its Mac theme. Eh, VLC is great, but it's really not the best out there IMO.

Condor323326y@electrineer that sucks.. I guess we'll see where it goes to with this new owner. One thing I noticed when I just installed it on my phone today, is that I had to agree with a privacy policy. I don't recall having to do that before. And after skimming through its privacy policy, I'm not very comfortable with it to be honest. I guess that I'll block the app from accessing the internet. Hopefully FX can then take care of the streams from my file server.
Edit: just reinstalled MX Player Pro and it turns out that you can deny the privacy policy. -
The ads in mx player got kinda annoying, but it's still a great player and possibly the best paid alternative out there for mobile.
-
Condor323326y@Artemix I think it displays some small footer ad in the video listing. It's been a while since I last used the free version of MX so things may have changed.. but from what I can recall, it wasn't too obtrusive. Needless to say, the paid version doesn't have it :)

VLC because it really is damn good. The only player which gives you a nice looking interface irrespective of the windowing system it runs upon - Gnome, KDE, XFCE, MS-Windows, Mac. And that 200% boost in audio is really helpful with files having very low audio.
