been working in the same company for 7 years, founder removed all our remote flexibility, told us people who dont come to the office can be replaced with AI, we have no excuse to being late to the office, etc...

feeling violated i began applying to other companies, and im very surprised that after 8 years of development experience, many side projects and curious endeavours later, i keep getting rejected or ghosted... wtf is this job market? i used to get interviews at least in almost any company i applied for before...

how tf do you land a new job these days?

I've tried to get a full time job like a month ago. The farthest I got was an AI bot interviewing me.

Guess I'll be a freelancer until the market recovers

We did really go through an roller coaster where during the pandemic you'd be hired if you had an pulse. To now companies refusing to hire due to AI. I'm expecting an correction to come once companies realize AI is just an tool and needs to be used correctly. Thus right now the market's down the drain but it'll bounce back in a bit once the AI hype cycle cools down.

So basically you timed incorrectly and got fucked. But it should swing back.

Yup. Something, somewhere must've gone horribly wrong when people w/ a lot of knowledge && experience are treated that way.

Well, it's your choice: stay or leave.

Company does not care about you, like at all.

But, a fair warning, you need to embrace AI at some level (I'm liking using Cursor for everyday tasks, for example, it's still bad at coding, but it does help me do some of it faster).

Anyway, good luck with your decision, but you won't be able to avoid AI (in some form).

Consider your age too. 35+? Maybe 40+?

Salary expectations are high. Mental flexibility slightly degraded.

+ being stuck in one company for 8yrs suggests being stuck to one stack, one set of problems. [suggests, not means]

    just my 2ct

I'm in the same boat. Though I'm not even planning to look for FTE positions. I said to myself years ago my current employer will be my last. Now I'm freelancing/consulting with some ex-colleagues [while still tethered to a 9-5 😁]

    Shit, isn't it.

On the positive side, in the afterlife you will be presented with every recruiter who has ever ghosted you, and a massive rubber cock.
