I'm thinking about making an linkidin account. I'm mostly a privacy centered person so I don't have any social media. Should I do it because it can maybe help me in my career? I'm currently at my first junior dev job.

Love to hear your opinions.

Yeah I'm also thinking about making one but the recruiter harassment stories I hear and sharing my name and professional history to every one makes me doubt.

Also very curious as I'm considering doing the same.

I made an account a month ago, and got several people interested. Sure, some of the recruiters are idiots who can't form proper sentences, but in that case just be like "no" and move on. However, one of the companies that contacted me were pretty great, and there's a good chance I'll land a job there. So you just have to sift through the crap and have a resume on hand to send off.

It's a fairly large time investment to set up your profile, since you have to craft it carefully. But after that it's there to stay, just update it as you go.

Most people post, but it feels like grandstanding and quite unorganic so I don't even bother with the social media aspect of it. I connect with people, get offers, consider them and am pure business there.

So yeah, it does have the potential to help your career, if you're willing to invest some time and be patient. Best thing is you can just leave it there and wait for people to message you, or actively search for positions.
