it's not about "hypersensitive woke snowflakes".
it's about "The Algorithm" suppressing everything that might possibly be in any way whatsoever controversial. -
Grumm19852d@tosensei Still, it is "The Algorithm" made by "hypersensitive woke snowflakes". Next step is an AI that is trans and will go on strike every 10 minutes because you didn't respect it's 'personal space'
This world is fucked and school is not helping. -
@tosensei > "it's about 'The Algorithm' suppressing everything that might possibly be in any way whatsoever controversial"
Then it's 100% about the "hypersensitive woke snowflakes".
Cancel culture is still alive and well. -
Devs don't give a shit. Managers think their opinion is important. Lawyer's opinions are important. Devs just knuckle under.
-
@Grumm yes, literally. It’s mind boggling to imagine that there are people who think this is a good idea.
-
I mean we see what is happening as a consequence: People start inventing a new word which has the exact same meaning but is not caught by the algorithm.
It’s so dumb. -
@Grumm also, the context where I encountered it in was historical. The people in the video were talking about past wars were people were "un-alived".
It was bizarre. -
@Grumm > "So we cannot use 'this task is killing me' ? or 'my back is killing me'"
Posts are flagged and removed for offensive language like 'killed', 'shot'. Not all, but enough to where you'll hear folks say "Pew Pew" instead of 'shot'
"Other day my buddy was pew pew'ed next the liquor store..."
I hear that and I'm reminded, again, our society is getting dumber and dumber. Not the folks that do it, but a system that makes people change words so they won't offend and their social media banned/canceled.
Language is a social construct. Words in themselves have no value, no action, it's our stupid monkey brain that reacts to hearing/reading 'Kill' that causes folks to lose that mind.
George Carlin has old comedy bit about curse words that is still relevant today. -
retoor88152d@Grumm would be so offended if it's possible to train such model with openai. I was working on fine tuning a retoor clone, and it didn't pass the regulations. It's literally a life story in proper language. The amount of times that I tried to train a model and failed at openai is insane. I'm sure something with the word tranny wouldn't pass. But often, I can imagine to train a real big model with it. The trainings data all went to gpt once before offered for training. Imagine that.

There is going to be a massive overcorrection of this kind of thing in the next decade. We are seeing the beginnings of it now.
People that just want to live their lives, (read: the vast majority of people) are fed up to the point of taking action, which does not bode well for the ones that have steered society into the dysfunctional mockery that it is now.
Jobs being easy to lose and hard to find were the only thing keeping otherwise docile people from acting.
The best thing you can do in the coming years is blend in with the crowd and not try to force whatever your thing is on people. -
Thing is, this kind of algo speak has been rampant in China for ages. The main thing you should take away from them is this kind of censorship on the internet doesn't work and nerds have a sense of humour. It's cat and mouse. There was a study like, 15 years ago by Facebook showing they could manipulate people's emotions by changing what was shown on their feed. There was a lot of backlash and they stopped publishing their research after that. I suspect in western culture it's an attempt to circumvent attempts at manipulation rather than attempts at censorship. Given how divided western culture is, given Musk's control over X and support of Trump. Anyway, thanks for listening to my Ted talk.

I mean it's rather simple. People dont wanna rum ads on controversial stuff, its hard to objectively decide what is controversial so you go happy ban hammer on anything that isn't clearly good for ads.
Can't really fault YT for doing whats clearly their best financial option even though it's hella crude.
Though the double standards for the old guard of news channels that get ignored when they do it on YT is kind of annoying.
My vid gets algobanned for saying fuck in the first min, meanwhile news channels show someone getting shot and they get ads... -
it's not that they get cancelled. it's that YouTube uses AI to transcribe the videos and if you say certain words they automatically flag and remove said video with varying degrees
people had to put all sorts of euphemisms for the vaccines
catch up, goshhh -
some other banned words. these actually got your videos taken down entirely. not shadow filtered
George soros (isn't taken down anymore)
Bill Gates (you get kicked for live streaming on YouTube if you say it still)
it's also used for the stupid flaggers at the bottom. so on videos produced by the actual world economic forum there's a X-like community note that says the world economic forum is a conspiracy theory lol...
a Canadian news station called Rebel News had their whole YouTube channel basically shadow banned probably for talking about vaccine injuries. a million subscribers but now at best 20k views a vide
another Canadian channel I watch she can't say "terrorist" for the same reason. youtubers literally have to guess these also
people doing exposés on the pedo cult or the satanism cult... got totally removed from YouTube. you can still find them on other sites. they get the Alex Jones treatment basically
your corporate overlords are the snowflakes -
they probably banned the dead word due to Palestinian media being uploaded en-mass to as many sites as possible and various reportings on it
lots of death. like. historically this is a slaughter like nobody has ever seen in history ever
YouTube also has a serious AI video generation content problem. people will make fucked up AI videos of child-relatable characters doing familial, psychological, physical abuse and other very trippy and disturbing stuff just to traumatize young kids. the more you knoowww -
I'm fairly certain it's just as @tosensei wrote.
Unalive is meant as a way to circumvent algorithm designed to suppress anything deemed inappropriate.
I've been hearing way too much of that word on the 'whatever' podcast, where they keep using it in place of 'suicide'.
Same thing for 'rape'. Can't say _that_ ... so they keep using replacement wording like 'S.A.' as in 'Sexually Assaulted'.
Things became very retarded. -
qwwerty11471dyou can still use whatever words you like. but if your goal is content creation, propagation, and monetization via engagement, then you play by "the algorithm"
they simply compiled list of "words with possible negative meaning" and ignored any context (yay, management ideas!)
meanwhile programmers are used to "bash cat with a pipe" or "force worker cleanup before it's killed". or the classic: https://devrant.com/rants/1290782/ -
@Grumm amazing mental gymnastics, to go from "the algorithm discourages the word 'kill'" to basically "trans people are guilty"
-
@PaperTrail nope. it's 100% about profits. it's 100% about EVERYBODY who might get pissed at something. and it was that way long before the word "woke" ever hit the mainstream.
-
@Lensflare that's what's been happening basically since language existed. meanings of words have always shifted, for one reason or another.
today, it's just slightly accellerated due to bigger idiots making bigger stupid decisions. -
Grumm19851d@tosensei Sorry, I should have used woke people, again sorry if I did offended some trans person that is not woke.
-
Grumm19851d@tosensei Not sure how it was before the 80's, but lately this shift is going pretty fast. In our town in Belgium, we banned the word "Christmas" in public. We should use "Winter" instead... I will not go into religion in this post. But it is sad but for content, I understand that all they want is money.
-
@Grumm i've always been for removing any religious references - from any and all religions - from public live.
believe whatever you want, but keep it to yourself. religion should be a purely private affair.
and the christmas season, which starts around august in german supermarkets, is way too long and annoying anyway. fuck christmas. -
@Grumm > but lately this shift is going pretty fast
i'd say that this is something every generation since the start of culture would say.
because: the change that's happening lately is the change that you are experiencing in real time. in every detail.
all the change that happened before you started being interested in the matter? you didn't experience it. you only got to know the end result and some high points of the change - and you lived with it for all your life. so from your perspective, there was no real change. -
Grumm19851d@tosensei Yet there are still double standards. I agree with christmas and stores going crazy. (for easter too xD)
My bigger problem is how a religion is complaining about this stuff, but then when there is stuff like ramadan, they demand flexible working hours because they have weak energy levels. I agree with you, keep your shit at home. In public any human should be equal. -
@Grumm i'd argue that EVERYBODY should have flexible hours ALWAYS (when it makes sense in the given profession)
-
Grumm19851d@tosensei This should be a thing yes. you need to work 40h a week. Do them as you fit best. Monring person? Working from 4am to 10am? no problem!
-
D-4got10-01146316h@Grumm > 'we banned the word "Christmas" in public.'.
I'm guessing people behind that decision have never seen that 'South Park' episode in which people kept removing more && more from Christmas because _some_ people were offended.
https://youtube.com/watch/... . -
In my previous company, they banned the word Weihnachtsfeier (Christmas Party) because one employee had the religion of Jehovah's Witness.
They insisted on calling it Winterfeier (Winter Party).
I noticed an increased usage of the word unalive, such as in "to un-alive someone" on youtube, spoken in the videos and written in the comments.
I suppose this is to avoid the word kill?
So we are at the stage of changing the language just to avoid using a bad word on a platform of hypersensitive woke snowflakes who will cancel you for saying a specific word regardless of the context it’s been used in?
Please tell me I‘m wrong. 😒
