> but we know they exist
no. the grey matter in your head just forms signals that other parts of the grey matter in your head interpret as "i know they exist".
also: no. memory is known to be located in the hippocampus (simplified). your argumentation of "it can't be in the brain because if you remove half of it the memory is still there" is dumb. that's like saying "the data can't be stored on this RAID-1 array because if you remove one drive, the data is still there". and that's how most parts within the hemispheres work: as backup for the other half. -
@cafecortado oh I had something related for that. apparently electricity helps
I have brain issues and dementia... the EGG they gave me felt AMAZING. and I regained my nerves from it. I wanna be zapped more. but AI and doctors insist EEGs don't do anything. these fucking hack idiots. every time

@tosensei neuroscience rats being recorded as they move in 3d space is a torus which doesn't make sense. your brain seems to be an encryption algorithm. your memory isn't in there. it's just a receiver
I'm surprised this book figured it out. a friend of mine years ago wanted to write an AI so we both got into it. well I was modeling my AI after human consciousness. so I was listening to a bunch of neuroscience stuff from a dude from Moscow. and what they were finding in brains wouldn't make sense if the data was stored in them. it would make perfect sense if the brain, specifically brain plasticity, determined how well your brain received information from something else. it's so cool, really
anyway I have brain issues so. and meditation and psychedelics helps people's physical brains noticably. so regardless of your cynicism you can't deny that data -
@jestdotty so basically, you instantly believe everything that directly contradicts known and well-established science, as long as it's fancy and weird and inherently unprovable.
and then you add some completely unrelated, but true things in there to provide your confused self some twisted sense of validation. yes, meditation is proven to have an impact on your brain (like software can impact hardware). and psychedelics? girl, those are basically defined as "substances that _affect the brain_ in fundamental ways".
the extent of your delusions keep astonishing me.
> What is your mind and where is your memory? You cannot take your finger and point to where these are. Our best scientists cannot tell us, but we know they exist. Memories do not exist in the physical brain. Any part of the brain can be removed without removing any memories. Half the brain can be removed without losing any memories in an operation called a hemispherectomy. People who have this operation before they have completed puberty will recover with only a slight limp. There is no impairment of short-term or long-term memory. So where are the memories stored?
... I mean it also doesn't make mathematical / physical sense
