Now I finally understand the real difference.
I always thought that they speed things up, but they do not.
What they do is that they kind of sort the tasks to fill every otherwise wasted time with a task.
That way the program will have a shorter lifespan, if there is no infinite loop in use.

This is why I manually coordinate multithreading on super-long, multi-day operations or just use one thread.
