My urgent, drop-everything, “bad actors have access to merchants and we can’t block them!” ticket that I rushed to finish didn’t make it into the release. It passed QA; everything works. There’s no complaints on code quality, either.

The blocker? My code uses the word “whitelist” (which is already present in the greater codebase in a related feature), and that made the woke VP (who happened to review the ticket) go REEEEEEE!! and demand I fix it to use approved language, therefore delaying the security fix until the next release cycle.

Yes, seriously.
It would be comical if I wasn’t so disgusted.

Oh well. Enjoy your bad company PR, dude. I hope it all burns.

    Also, code doesn't see color.... but it does show its true colors in a good IDE.

    But seriously though. Nothing wrong w/ 'whitelist', 'blacklist', 'master', 'slave' or whatever in computing. Too many retards have infiltrated the field w/ their weird views.

    I'll take security over * cough * approved language every time.

    How tf they still alive? It’s like watching someone getting shot in the head, hit by a speeding vehicle, plunging 50 ft onto rocks, getting run over by an elephant stampede, and still living after a brief 2 day stay at the hospital

    Update:
    Two more rounds of code review changes, with the last one including a request to add comments to the wrong area (the comments specifically warning that I changed a [soon-to-be-removed] feature, omg beware), and suggestions that I change two return values … which would allow all IPs, in all scenarios, forever.

    Just… 🤦🏻‍♀️

    So, it won’t go out for yet another week. Whatever. I’m so far beyond the ability to care.

    Wow. Sounds like the reviewer either has problems w/ reading or logic... or both.

    Also seems to like verbosity a bit too much, given the need for the comment about the feature being retired.

    Tell him you used "whitelist" to remind cis-het-normative whites of their whiteness, and the term comes from "viva-la-revolucion comrades" in the 1819 jamaican revolt against british colonialism, a term they used to mark "british oppressors and sympathizers, in the struggle for equity" and that "supremacists and covert right-adjacents have astroturfed and colonized the word, so refusing to use it is unintentional reactionary tactics that give aid and comfort to those who have traditionally oppressed minorities."

    OMG, been there over "master". After 2 failed attempts at explaining, I blindly replaced all instances with "boss", and hand-delivered my letter of resignation, saying "complied with your request, have fun figuring it out".
