Ok, a few days ago I recommended contabo.com as a good and cheap VPS, because our company uses it and it is blazingly fast. BUT! I am definitely NOT doing this!

"False or fraudulent orders are commonplace on the Internet. We have to take measures to prevent such false or fraudulent orders. Our system has identified your order as a possible false order. We must now prove your order as a valid order, otherwise we cannot provide you with the services you bought. We need your help with this. Please send us a copy of your passport or national identity card or something similar which corresponds to the data you have provided to us. Alternatively, you can send us your telephone or electricity bill if it contains your address. The address must match the address you provided on our homepage. It is sufficient if you simply take a photo of the document. The only purpose of this is to prove your order as authentic. This is why it does not matter which of the mentioned documents you send us and it does not matter if you make a scan or take a photo. A scammer could not provide any of these documents, this means one document is already enough to prove that your order is authentic and valid."

    Close account and move on.
That’s some next level shit right here.

Hmmm, I was complaining a lot and they gave me access ok then...anyway, I am not gonna store anything personal on there and if so, it will be fully encrypted.

Well yeah asking for that information is shitty, but on the other hand, does it matter if it's already presented on the order anyway? I think that it also helps with eliminating onionimous chaps from using it to spread spam and blacklist their whole network far and wide, as I'm experiencing with Aruba Cloud. Took a really long time to improve the reputation of my mail servers there in RBL lists, I'm telling ya. And I still can't fucking comment in 4chan from those IP's 😑

Maybe contact Contabo about it, but I think that ID verification is really not a bad thing to ensure good IP rep on cheaper hosting providers. Hetzner for example does it too, which actually makes their service very attractive to me for systems that require good IP reputation. All kinds of unscrupulous folks get attracted to cheap VPS's as a quick "fuck and leave on the streets with a cumshot still leaking out of her" type of deal. ID verification does a lot to repel that.

Send them a bogus shopped version

I currently have a 8 core 30 gig server by them and I'm very happy. Good support. Only downside is that their internet connection wasn't always stable so sometimes the server was down for 1-3 hours. But thats what you pay for.

I had a similar experience, it was a hassle. Thanks to the SMTPget for setting up an SMTP server.
