You have no github but molodetz! Unlimited build server / filesize.
Live coding sessions is totally fine by me tho. But will never do a cognitive test again. Passed it (with perfect score for inductive and deductive thinking), took hours, was very intense, not hired. I felt raped afterwards.
Recruiters are idiots. Do have to know so little but still don't know. It's almost an art to remain that stupid.
I have a strong portfolio because I don't have a job (you should try it!) -
yea such a bs those live coding sessions.
Just hire if I am a fit , try it for 3 months and see.
Oh my greatness goodness, strict ass corps and hr and idk what eelse -
@freshlyfe @whimsical
Live coding session in person are fine. I'm specifically talking about "AI" live coding where a stupid LLM is the one judging your code -
I typically refuse to do any "homework" assignments.
I haven't used my Github in years, but my Gitlab is pretty active: https://gitlab.com/djsumdog .. although I really want to move off of Gitlab to self-hosted Forgejo at some point. -
About github, if you can't prove that you can write code, I'm not going to take you at your word. Go with bitbucket or even host on your personal website. But if you come to me without any proof at all that you have any skill, I'm going to look elsewhere.
-
retoor12352d@djsumdog it looks a lot like gitea / grog. Any benefits it has? Gitea is rendered in less than a milisecond because written in Go. Vroem!
Edit: the customization is just totally perfect. You can dump a duplicate of all the templates it uses and just modify them. By doing this, I converted gitea into a portfolio that automatically updates, but if you login, you have a complete github-like platform with build server / ticket management and all of the stuff. -
Grumm18962d@cuddlyogre But we can't really put random corporate code in private gits right?
I made a full NFC writer for factory people in c#, isn't that enough proof? -
@retoor It's a fork of Gitea by former developers after Gitea started to offer commercial services
-
cuddlyogre155721h@Grumm I would consider it strange for a potential hire to not have anything at all to show. To not even have a personal project you can show would cause me to immediately second guess your application. -
@cuddlyogre then send me a test or call the CTO of my next company. I'm not a child anymore. You can require that for juniors, not seasoned people. I really have some other shit to do than maintaining my github - like, you know, actual work.
If you ask for a github or use microsoft teams or corpotech like jira I'd rather starve than working for you anyway. -
@cuddlyogre actually if I ever have to recruit people, if you have a github, you're fired.
-
Classic prisoners dilemma
At the end of the day you'll always find someone who will do it, so we are all doomed to also play along

Things that we should collectively refuse to do while job searching:
- AI interviews and live coding sessions
- Working with recruiters who don't know shit about tech
- "What is your Github" (I don't use github, retard, they're microsoft. Beside, I don't have a strong portefolio because I had an actual job, you should try it).
