C0D4681386yIt’s probably indexing your files, it does that periodically to try and identify any files that may be images outside of “my pictures” folder
There’s a setting in the app to disable that. -
i think when it loads the photo viewer executable file from read only memory it has to create a buffer and parse the instructions to start it. i think windows puts it at a high priority. you should do some research.

Hey, that happens to me too since 1809 update. The laptop is setting idle for a minute or two and the Photos process starts maxing one core, fan kicks in, battery starts to drain.

@bahua Nope, it's baked into the OS. The "classic" viewer is still there, but needs to be enabled with registry hacks. New "modern" app still remains, though.
So just sitting here watching my windows VM's cpu usage to monitor was seems to be causing some stuttering and then out of fucking nowhere the default photo's app pops and and claims 96% of the CPU...
I understand computers are weird but how the hell does an app randomly start and jump to such a high CPU usage?
