Youtube does it for me. If you want to waste some time there are millions of channels that will help you pass the time. and if you want to be informed on the go, channels like computerphile / scishow / smarter everyday are always there to give your knowledge a quick boost.

I am using my phone for reading books. I prefer real books but sometimes I can only find them in the internet
-
FL Studio Mobile? It's pretty addictive (also best DAW on Android imho)
Write stuff? If I'm bored and on my phone I sometimes write a random essay or short story or something
Also webcomics, some are individual panels while others go in series (eg. SMBC for individual ones, Spacetrawler/Mare Internum/The Boy Who Fell etc. for series) -
There's also a fun little app called EveryCircuit that lets you build and visualize current flow in circuits
Also text adventure games, though I'm just getting into those, but Lifeline was absolutely great (yes I know you said no games, just putting it here) -
@billgates I got the feeling that "no mobile games" meant stuff like your typical casual games or MMO stuff
Sorry if you meant it to cover all of gaming, Root
But in any case, just felt like mentioning Lifeline because I played it a while ago and thought it was a great use of the phone as a medium for running a game, or at least what they tried to do felt good
I might actually build a similar thing to teach myself how to write branching stories and also app dev -
donuts236726y@RememberMe Is that the one where events popup randomly during the day. Probably not of a distraction?
Most of my mobile games are like puzzles, strategy. The rest I just cheat and get rid of when I've had enough. -
Invest in crypto maybe? Binance is a good platform, but if anyone knows a better platform they can recommend as well.
-
Well if you use android try APDE.
(Its a processing ide for android. Didnt find a dark mode option tho) -
Dcoder app for programming challenges?
Enki for Dev knowledge?
Reddit? Discord? YouTube (newpipe)?
Openhub/GitHub? -
Root797796y@dertrockx I do use Binance on my phone, but I much much much prefer using TradingView on my lappy.
@irene Duolingo/etc. is a great idea; thanks for reminding me about them!
@RememberMe I used to do music, but it's been so long since I felt the need to write. Maybe again someday 😢
@hubiruchi eBooks are also a good idea; I might do that again. Just hard to find what i want to read >.>
@cursee @Admin-who @Hubot-0x58 Maybe. There are a few good channels.
@WIPocket I really hate trying to code on my phone. I have the paid DroidEdit, and it's okay. But phones absolutely suck for typing.
@hash-table Edx has an app for lectures? Yay!
@arcadesdude Enki? What's that? I'll have to look into it. -
@Root What keyboard are you using? I used to suck at typing until I got Hacker's Keyboard (pretty big buttons, simple, has dark mode and has a lot of characters normal people dont use)
-
@Root it's a app to help learn new stuff or refresh your skills with learning games. Has got, JavaScript and a few others. I find it is helpful and it is how I found devrant (from play store related apps).
-
Root797796y@WIPocket I've tried the hacker's keyboard and wasn't really a fan. It's definitely better for coding, ssh, etc. but the problem is that phones just make terrible input devices.

random question/minirant:
I need something to do on my phone besides devRant and chess and repeatedly checking my email. Suggestions? I'm getting really sick of chess, and there's only so much content on devRant. And email? Nothing interesting for days (and weeks prior) despite waiting on so. many. people. to get back to me.
Bleh.
Random research is a given. And no, mobile games and social media are pointless.

boredom plus a boring phone
