Short but sweet:
why doesn't linux mint (an Ubuntu-based distro) fucking trim SSDs by default? Ubuntu doesn't do it by default either!

God, I wish Fedora wasn't broken as fuck... I miss the FC13 days!

    Manjaro does :)
The fstab entries for SSDs have sensible defaults.

Cause it can fuck up your cryptsetup if enabled. So the sensible default is to disable it so the user can decide if he needs it or not.

@fuckwit Cryptsetup ignores trims by default unless you have it explicitly enabled in crypttab, so it would be fine

This article says that TRIM on-the-fly is slow in Linux: https://howtogeek.com/176978/...

But it's quite old, has anything changed since?

@gronostaj I don't see it being slow on my own Manjaro install.

@fuckwit @gronostaj I don't have Cryptsetup, so why not enable TRIM if it's not in used!

@Parzi enabling it by default can relult in data loss... Just read all the warnings and notes the arch wiki mentions on the trim section of the solid state drive article.

It is just not a sensible default to enable it by default.

+ there are many smarter brains than us out there that have put hours of thought into this to make defaults that work on nearly all systems.

@gronostaj thank you didn't remember exactly what it was with cryptsetup.
I just know that it can be very destructive if enabled in the wrong environment.
