Mind you, besides the ransomware it would be nice to know the attack used to offload the payload, for all we know it was a WOrdpress site with a gaping hole in it, which wouldn’t surprise me.

Didn't that thing target specific NAS? First computer worm was for Unix. Course there is plenty of malware for the *nixes. They just never had the market share on the dying(?) desktop. And maybe it's just too many distributions to target.
