Auto updating should never be default if it interrupts work

Is it so hard to turn off auto updates? You can do all this things after you install Windows but you don't get the time to turn off auto update or change the update hours?

Hate towards windows is sometimes ridiculous. Please tell me you don't install the drivers either when you first install Windows

Basically I don't mind them cuz usually they were around 5-10 min max - but this one was muuuch longer

Startup weekend. Same problem. Laptop is shut off during those hours so....

@tahnik Yes windows 10 is notorious for forcing updates on you with no easy to turn them off. I'm not sure if that's changed since I last heard about it.

My update always appeared as I wanted to turn off my laptop and go home. Cursed was the first night I made the family dinner late waiting "just another minute" for that stupid thing. Ever since then I only update on my lunch break - which forced me to take a good walk every week!

What version of Windows 10 do you have because you can turn of updates using group policy if you have pro
  • 0
@tahnik theres a difference between chosing to update and being forced to wait. Auto background updates are fine, but those that interrupt the user are not. It's just horrible UX. Sure you can disable it, but why is it default?

    - just like the P2P updating Windows had/have, also enabled by default.. WT... not even game updaters/clients enables this by default

I have never had a windows 10 update take longer than 15 min. I don't get all the fuss about it.

Mine updated at the end of my work day on Friday when it shut down. Now I am waiting for it to finish them on start up this morning. 11% in 15 minutes. Derp.

@atomicTurtle HDD - intel i3 2.20GH, but despite this one usually they took around 5-10 mins

@SithLord actually Battle.net enables P2P updates by default.

@aamitkov how do you develop on that? D:
Perhaps I'm just a snob but I'd not work on anything less than a Gen 4 i5, 8GB RAM and SSD...
