Github is not a social network, Facebook and instegram is.
Github units are projects, including sources, issue trackers, wiki (sometimes) and contributing methods. If you look at this definition you can see that a "person" doesn't matter in github.
Facebook units are persons, including thoughts, feelings, images and reviews. As you can see Facebook target is about a life, and no creation.
