And that, kids, is why I don't ask anything on SO.

Sometimes question can be duplicate of another question with answer. Person giving answer to this duplicate either copied answer or made a new one in order to get easy points or just didn't use search like member who wrote question.

This is one of many possibilities for such behavior. I wouldn't blame SO without OP providing URL to his question.

i moderate on SO, (well i'm not a moderator, just basic triage and editing) and there are a lot of people who downvote for no reason but there are even more people that do no ask an actual question, or ask a question that looks like they haven't thought about it for 1 sec

@DarkMukke I guess those kinds of people are in all technical forums after all.. I see them in the technical groups on Telegram all the time as well. Fortunately in a fair amount of groups I'm able to crack down on it without getting in trouble for "but muh inclusion, all questions are valid". Out of curiosity though, is it only a problem in SO and maybe Unix SE and such, or also in the lesser known SE sections?

without link to validate your statement, it's just an empty rant. You won't even learn a lesson, you will just think that "obviously" SO is bad.
