Newbie here, how long did it take you to get a good handle in the language you code in (that pays your bills)?

    A great first question! Welcome

I don't know if I have a good handle on any of the languages I tried, so I don't know

@foamyfan no git, no last known backups? That sucks

    In a language? 2, maybe 3 months.
In its libraries -- well that's a different question. Built-in libs -- ~1 year. 3rd party - will not happen. Ever. Noone will ever master all the libs :)

About around a year. But I still have a lot to improve on.

I've been doing C++ for about 15 years and I still learn things about it every now and then. Though, that is compounded by C++11 & 14

Wrong question. It's good to know one language well, but if you want to become a good software developer, your should be able to switch between language when needed. Most languages share common traits, so it's not as hard as it may sound.
