inaba46255y@dudeking Undertale so much. Especially the final fight in the genocide route like holy shit it just kept getting better and better. And that theme song omg.
Cuphead is another really great indie game with amazing art and an amazing soundtrack. Ofc it's also kinda unique in that it's styled like an old cartoon. And on top of that it has really great gameplay as well.
A Hat In Time is also pretty great. It's lovely, has some good gameplay, is lovely, a pretty nice soundtrack as well, and it's just lovely as hell.
Baba Is You which was actually made at a game jam (and later made in to a full game) is a really fun puzzle game where in order to win you have to move blocks that changes the rules. -
inaba46255yThen there's the Touhou games which I really really like. A series of bullet hell games developed by one dude who really likes beer. They have some memorable and great music, pretty neat characters, pretty solid gameplay (with a new gimmeck in each game), and they are pretty difficult without being basically impossible. In the same series there are also spinoff fighting games made by a different (indie) studio and they are also pretty nice (although I'm not a big fan of them.) Some of the games are on Steam as well.
Not only are the official games great, but the fanbase has also taken to make their own games, like the Fantastic Damnaku Festival games.The series is loosely based off of the main series but they are even more creative with the bullet patterns and the last stage is just fucking beautiful (and they're on Steam as well) -
inaba46255yThere's also another fangame (and there are lots of them) called Touhou Luna Nights which is a Castlevania style game with really great art, gameplay, soundtrack, bosses, and everything really. Oh and you get to slow down time (and later you get timestop as well). It's great regardless if you like Touhou or not

The two up top aren’t really popular, they’re both REALLY FUN first person dungeon crawlers and they’re amazingly simple and fun to play and I wish they were more popular, so check them out if you’re curious.
And the list below are indie games I’m loving rn. I haven’t played much of moon lighter but it’s such an interesting take on dungeon crawlers. And aside from Cup Head since I haven’t played too much of it, but the others are legit some of my favorite games I’ve ever played. -
Ohh, and Banished is pretty fun too

They are all indie games developed by small studios. Chucklefish is much larger than I thought, and the largest on the list. When I applied there, they only had 6 developers... and only hired locally. 🙁
Anyway, here's the list sorted (roughly) by studio size:
1) Starbound (Chucklefish: 27(!) credited team members)
2) Factorio (20 employees)
3) CrossCode (Radical Fish: 16)
4) Terraria (ReLogic: 24 employees, fewer during Terraria. Best I could find was 8+QA)
5) Rimworld (Ludeon Studios: 6 devs)
6) Rocket League's predecessor (Psyonix: 5 devs? I can't find this info, but it wasn't a serious inclusion anyway)
7) Undertale (2 + 16 contributors)
8) Endless Sky (1 dev plus contributors)
9) Windward (Tasharen Entertainment: 1 dev)
10) Boring Man (Spasman Games: 1 dev -- the crazy Spasman himself)
Six out of the ten are tiny! -

@Root definition of small was undefined. I assumed it was meant as small playerbase (hidden pearls). It can also be seen as small download size.
