I ordered a second hand mini laptop. (Mini as in 8 inch)

Now I obviously will put some kind of Linux distro onto it but I'm wondering which one I should choose.

Debian based is a must, except for that I don't know yet.

Ideas?

What's the laptop's usage gonna be?

@Stuxnet Pretty much will act as a device I've got with me at all times so from programming to server management to watching movies and gaming sometimes...

Hm depends on the hardware specs I guess. I got Puppy Linux running pretty smoothly on my friends 13-year-old Laptop he wanted to throw away (all he does is some office work and casually browsing the Internet).

PopOs seems popular, or perhaps Mint?

Lubuntu is a nice option, or Linux Mint LXDE

Linux MX is a Debian based small distro. Similar philosophy to arch (no bloatware) but without the instability of rolling releases. Plus it's Debian so you get access to apt-get :)

Ubuntu 18.04 minimal is always my "I need this to run Linux" distro.

Install Ubuntu then run Windows through a vm

If you prefer debian flavors, and the machine itself will be relatively underpowered, then I don't see any reason to run anything but debian. I would recommend however that you do not run a display manager, and launch X with xinit/startx instead.
