Currently I own a Lenovo Thinkpad which I bought in 2013. As it is aging, I'm thinking about a replacement. Where would you buy a new laptop, constraints:
- Swiss keyboard (or Option to swap it for one)
- compatible with Linux (prefered if there's a option without Windows pre instaled)
- NVMe SSD
- good battery live
- abillity to upgrade the RAM in the future

I've been looking at System76 now for a while, but since I've worked with Swiss keyboards for the last 12 years, I don't want to switch to an en_us layout...

So where do you buy your laptops?

    Aside from System76 there's also Purism with their Librem 13 and 15 laptops which support NVME storage. But I don't know if the RAM can be ugraded afterwards and they only offer english and german layouts, not sure how the german one compares.

    I myself also have a Thinkpad(from 2016) and it looks like I'll continue to use it for quite a while. Mine has the british layout, I switched back then because the english layouts have far better placements for keys used in programming. And contrary to the US layout it still supports umlauts with a shortcut.

    System76 sells to 60 countries but they apparently only sell ANSI keyboards? Bullshit.

    @electrineer for theor newer laptops they offer en_uk besides en_us... But yeah, still sucks.

    @Wack that's more reasonable, but then their shipping page is outdated:

    System76 manufactures US keyboard layouts on all laptops. You can choose your own language and software-based layout during the first time-user setup. Keyboard stickers may be used to adjust to your specific language.

    I bought mine off amazon. I have no idea if you can get the options you want from there. Does amazon show swiss products to people in that region?

    Mine is an Asus. I added ram and hard drive to mine. It has a nice 6 core processor i7. Better than my work laptop.

    @electrineer just had a quick look as I was thinking about either Orix Pro or Gazelle, the Orix Pro offers a UK keyboard option (and AFAIK the physical key placement is the same für UK as for CH, while the US is slightly different).

    @Wack yes, the ANSI layout is used mostly in US, while most places use the ISO layout.

    I have bought several computers from https://www.tuxedocomputers.com/ over the last years: 1 notebook and 3 PCs. I especially like the IPS panel of my notebook.

    You can choose the desired hardware and linux support is great. They have swiss keyboard layouts available. All systems can easily be upgraded.

    Dells project Sputnik series is quite nice (laptops with Linux support), myself I really like the xps 13 developer edition :)
