Where the fuck y'all make your resume? My current one is made in Photoshop to accommodate things on one page.

Good old Office Libre ... no need to make it too fancy IMO

Just make sure it's not overloaded and that the important information are on the top

@JhonDoe never gets complete in a page

@Abrynos looks like a nice idea. Thanks.

@Asbetha I guess that's one of the issue with me, I want to fit in a lot of things. I guess I'll have to give a thought first.
  • 1
@netikras looks promising, is that a free service?
  • 2
@theunknownguy free tier has some limitations. They do not bother me

@Asbetha This. Good ol' libre office.
  • 2
@netikras thanks! Will check it out.

Just the Microsoft Word template? ๐Ÿคท‍โ™‚๏ธ

    Libre office, simple and clean.
You could use Canva if you want something fancier.
  • 2
Another point for Libre Office here. I feel like making something fancy for anything other than a design position isn't that useful. Especially considering how fast HR read them.

    Webpage. Export to PDF.

The short version is 3 pages, how on earth are you decompressing down to 1 and expect to get a job?

Unless it's in compression algorithms... I mean that could work.

Openoffice but I mean to upgrade to Latex someday.
  • 2
I think sales made it in office.

When I started I had to give my resume (non existent) and they made a piece of art from my experience there.

    @dmonkey Me too!

I like how you get a pdf with an XML out of it. That you can import directly to make changes (no need to keep docx/odt file AND pdf file). And how it's already cleanly formatted!

The only thing that irks me is their wysiwyg that is not really wysiwyg (some spacing is off). I'd prefer some bbcode/html subset/even markdown mode as well.
  • 1
I never noticed that... I used it last time 2 years ago. I need to update my cv ๐Ÿ˜‚

Of course I didn't download the xml so I'll have to start from scratch lol
  • 2
In the past I used LaTeX to generate a nicely typeset CV but nobody really wants it in print anymore (though they probably print it at HR when you apply for a job), plus importing a LaTeX-generated CV in LinkedIn or another automated site is a PITA, so I switched to using LibreOffice.

I guess Markdown would work as well, I could take it as a project to learn it…

Microsoft word, remember don’t make it stylish or anything, make it easy to read, easy to find what is your skills, your bio, your projects, and your work experience. Recruiters go through hundreds resume everyday, your art isn’t going to be a factor, make it easy for them, and they will probably give you a shot

    vim ¯\_(ใƒ„)_/¯

LaTeX every day of the week.

@C0D4 Every HR that I talked to (doesn't mean everyone, but still), highly recommend using one page only or two if you've had a long career. If your diplomas/experiences are too long to describe, just write about your skills.

PS: It might also be a difference between countries.
  • 1
@dmonkey As I said, it's pdf WITH xml, so you upload your pdf and it extracts everything by itself. :D One file to keep, that is probably somewhere in your mailbox anyway if you emailed it anywhere. Real time saver!
  • 3
@Jilano could be a country thing.

3 is the standard max here, but when they want you to list all relevant experiences within the roles, without keyword stuffing, it gets complicated over 5-10 years to keep it short.

1 page usually suggests a junior or a handful of years.

My last resume reached 5 pages, I had to condense and reword a lot of things to get it back under.
  • 1
@C0D4 yeah even in my country HRs want it to be 1 page long (at least for fresher like me). Anything more than that they get disinterested.

@C0D4 Seems like Aussies have a lot of time on their hands, haha
  • 3
@Jilano how else do we have time for surfing ๐Ÿ„‍โ™‚๏ธ , kangaroo boxing and emu riding?

What do you think we actually do down here? Work??

    www.resumize.me
Once you set up, easy to customize and visualize.

@aviophile With an expired certificate? nope, not going there :)
  • 1
    @C0D4 Drink. I think you drink a lot. :D
  • 2
    @Jilano ๐Ÿค”do we?
I mean like sure, you're not an Aussie without a beer in your hand, a 6 pack strapped to your back and bottle of hard stuff in the other (rum, whisky ect), oh don't forgot the beanie and thongs, no not that thong..... ๐Ÿคจ the feet kind.

But, I find this a pretty average day. Like we haven't even made it to 10am by this point.
