In the royal city of Aagra. My phone broke and knowing the exploitative bitch I used to meet back then I was certain had I disappeared amid a conversation she would break up with me, so I debugged an Android 2.3 image with no documentation and shaky hands from frustration while cursing her every family member in Hungarian. (Passers-by probably thought I was casting spells on my computer)

    Good to read you're no longer with such a person.

    @kescherRant it's practically a cause for celebration.

    An early death from the grief of assholes is always a terrible thing. To be at peace in or out of a relationship is such a wonderful state of mind.

    also Android 2.3 man those were the days, when I rooted my phone on the toilet

    @kescherRant is it ever okay to miss old tech? Because some days I miss Atari.
  • 2
    @Wisecrack I miss the days of Android phones having unlocked bootloaders by default

    @Wisecrack We were both assholes. It really isn't surprising, neither of us had much experience at socialising, and it only lasted so long because we both thought that being alone would be worse and sane people wouldn't date us. Apparently being alone is much better.

    @kescherRant I miss the days of trench warfare with bayonets.

    @kescherRant I mean, most of the time it isn't difficult to unlock it.
  • 1
    @Lor-inc yes, but there's no security involved anyway. It's just additional lock-in.

    @Lor-inc being alone is fucking amazing most of the time.

    Relationships take serious work to..make them work. Especially if you're the long haul type. To this day I'm a little bit in awe of the fact that anyone can be comfortable enough with someone else that they can fall asleep in the same bed.

    You can never trust others to share the fucking blankets!

    @kescherRant Lol, I rooted new phones on the toilet. Often the bootloader supports booting from SD.

    @Lor-inc I had to deal with locked bootloaders that would only boot specific OS images

    @Wisecrack Trench warfare is boring, I prefer swordfights with hunks of steel designed more to crush than to slice.

    @kescherRant That's what locked means, isn't it? But unlocking can sometimes be done by dialing some random number and providing a code which I got online by entering the IMEI. It's fucking stupid, but it often works.

    @Lor-inc RIP and TEAR!

    @Lor-inc well, I have dealed with certain manufacturers that require being logged into a certain account for a week on the device (I suppose to "prove ownership") and then running a Windows-only unlock tool
  • 1
    @kescherRant that's fucking nuts.goodbye DRM.
  • 1
    @Wisecrack guess why the device was just put into a box for a week with an empty battery until it was time to put a custom ROM on
  • 2
    @kescherRant Many do that, but usually it can be tricked by creating a fake account, setting the system clock ahead and then spending a fraction of the saved time fiddling with wine until the magic happens. It is infuriating though. Why do I have to prove ownership to root it in the first place if find my device isn't enabled by default and rooting wipes the data? And why isn't the imei number enough for that.

    @Lor-inc Because companies like their spyware and want you to keep it
