You can use a local account on Windows still iirc. It's been a year since I've set an install up, but that's how I did my home setup. It's not perfect, but it's okay and I don't have to deal with all that dumb Ms account bullshit.

If you unplug the ethernet cable or close WiFi, it will let you use a local account.

They could just ask as before and lot let it as a hidden option...

@lostinmyworld I didn't have any connection, I use my phone as a Wi-Fi adapter.

Otherwise, you are connecting to your online account which will also start the sync process of OneDrive, calendar's , mail and anything else it deems worthy to deal with for you.

Actually, hell, at that point in the install, I can use `net` anyway and just skip that other bullshit with OOBE magic. I've usually got `sethc.exe` replaced with a copy of cmd at that point, i can just hammer shift and be SYSTEM

The option to immediately create a local account is not there anymore.

Not sure what you're talking about, I installed win10 from newly created installation media months ago with a local account without any tricks.

@Lor-inc I installed mine on January (a couple of times, actually) and remember having this issue at least once, but it was the least of my concerns back then.
I activated it last Monday after being sure it was stable, and the next day it asked for the password of the account I used for activating it, it changed my login information without asking at all.

@c3r38r170 I mean, if you tie your license to an account then of course it will make you use that account to prevent license sharing. I have two serial keys that I use on various devices, one is usually enabled on one of my siblings' laptops, the other on a VM.

@Lor-inc They already claim they tie it to hardware (whatever that means), so by their claims it's not necessary, UNLESS you are moving to another device / changing your processor or RAM Idk what they use (obviously not RAM).

@c3r38r170 Usually motherboard, but this is bullshit. My licenses work fine despite one of them changing machines every year and the other not having access to any hardware IDs.

And they supposedly support VMs, so the keys mustn't bind on IDs randomized by the hypervisor.
