And that is why i always pad my estimates, It will become a deadline and the scope will increase.
-
Also it's worse when the clients change requirement without changing the deadline. It's like I'm wiping their ass while they're shitting on me.😈

Maybe in some companies but I have experienced non-devs that have PMP certification. Ok for some projects like pandemic planning.
Have all your PM's been devs? -
mazakris2338yI feel you. They promise the world and then wonder why you can't build it all in time.

Or your PO/Client has no fucking clue what they're doing and refuses your advice only to realize you were right a month later and make you change it. -
ladsoft378yI work in a small software company. My PM is also my boss - has been always a sales guy, never coded anything properly. Yet, when he wants to convince a potential client, he assumes features and technical aspects that either are wrong, or got deprecated/removed ages ago.

@spl0 unfortunately mine has come from the marketing side. Also they have huge historical data that they didnt know what to do about. That too not in a standard format. Some are spreadsheets, some are presentations, some are just dead simple text files. FORTUNATELY, I don't have to put them into the system to make it all DIGITAL.
So now they wanna do analytics on this data and do a bunch of things. they don't undeestand why we need time to spend on data modeling and why it's not like asking your computer... "Hey! Computer! I need a fucking web application that does wonders with my data and is also built on top of latest and greatest of tech stack." Phew! -
@ItsNotMyFault I try doing the same..padding the estimates but some asks, which in my case generally most of it is so irrational. The worst part is them being arrogant and not accepting that they dont understand how the tech works. They just wanna pretend that they know everything. It would be a better place if they were honest.
-
Nastrand1898yWell, this depends isn't it? I'm now PM and have been dev for about 8 years (and still developing) and when a developer estimate a task in 21 hour and after 30 isn't finished I come close to him to see the problem, like you've to face pressure from the PM probably the PM recieve pressure from the client don't you think? Just saying....
-
@Nastrand that's the difference. You worked as dev and became PM. You know about code. You can always go to a dev, ask what's becoming bottleneck and can proba ly point them to thr right direction..or think if the feature is overkill.
In my case, it's hopeless because they don't know anything about tech. First couple of weeks of the project work we, the devs had to guide her through the project management software, explain what we refer to as UI. At some point it just got really frustrating you can imagine.

Hey PMs!
Fuck you!
Estimates are NOT... I repeat..they are NOT the FUCKING DEADLINES.
If you are asking for an estimate then remember, in your absolutely fucking small fucknugget brain, that it can FUCKING CHANGE!
The last thing you wanna do is grill the dev by asking them to explain in details why the change instead of trusting them. Specially when you don't understand a thing of the technology.
