Sumafu22425yThis meme is wrong. macOS was there way before Linux. The first macOS with the name Macintosh System Software was released in 1984, and Linux in 1991. And Linux was orientated on Unix, which is the base of macOS from the first day.

@Sumafu Mac Indeed, you are correct my good sir. Mac OS was there before Linux, but not before BSD from which a lot of ideas were taken from, I think the meme would have been more correct if it would've taken the "Linux" out of the bucket. Basically I think the meme is just pointing at the fact that many of the initial components that Apple used came from open sourced tooling initially.
-
That's the point of OSS. That anyone, including big corps, can use it for whatever they like.
-
@dontbeevil as in only Mac OS took ideas from Open Source Software? No, I never said that. Or do you mean something else?
-
@dontbeevil never said that either though. But correct, there were more before Linux.

Sumafu22425y@AleCx04 macOS didn’t copied anything from BSD, macOS IS BSD. BSD is the core of macOS.
This is the chain of inheritance:
Unix -> BSD -> OPENSTEP -> Rhapsody -> Darwin -> macOS -
@Sumafu there is way more history than that man but yeh its the general gist. I still wouldn't say that mac os is entirely BSD, more partly, because even though it damn near uses a lot of components from the BSD kernel, it comes out with slight diversions from it and it is called XNU

I would guess that the meme meant porting oss projects which were primarily made for linux.
A good example is MongoDB: Microsoft ported that themself.
Also probably some freeware/adware programs on windows. -
The main reason why OSS exists is that software can be distributed without any costs. That's why in the software world you don't have to care what happens with your work. Because for 10 or 10 000 people to get the product the maintainer has to work equally as much.
I hope I catch something good today
