So, I dare you to tell me something motivating!

    @alexbrooklyn sure, but how does it motivate me to work today? If anything, that just encourages procrastination.
  • 3
    @rutee07 sure, but I can experience the same thing while watching Korean, Turkish, or Mexican drama. (those are the only ones I've watched that were so captivating. - and free- other nations, start subbing your good tv shoes in English and make them available online 😛)
  • 1
    @rutee07 Yasssssss! Same!
  • 2
    @NoMad You are stronk like the Hulk and fast like the Flash and intelligent like Steven Hawking

    Does it help? 😄
  • 3
    Motivation is fake expectation.

    All your porn is now locked behind a finished job.
  • 1
    It is ok to be unmotivated today. Come back tomorrow
  • 2
    @lkjhgf253 you're threatening the wrong person with porn stash 😜

    @asgs deadlines tho!
  • 0
    @PonySlaystation not really, since it makes me feel powerful enough to "do it later".
  • 2
    @NoMad deadlines are overrated. I find under committing and under delivering to be working
  • 0
    @NoMad imagine all the cool new JS frameworks you can check out after you're done. 😄
  • 2
    @PonySlaystation yup, that's working. The devops slavery is what I ran away from and I ain't going back there!
    Cheers. Fear is a good motivation!

    @theKarlisK it shouldn't be. 🤔
    Unless it's a ninja turtle!

    @hardfault your role models are pretty crappy 😛

    @NoMad I don’t like the guy either, until he is high on weed and giving quotes like this 😂

    Do some exercise, just get some good old oxygen for a while. Should fix your 404.

    Pushing past some work is part of the glory of our powers.

    The wonderful creations that we make that so many people enjoy and marvel at are due to pushing past some of the hard parts and enjoying the sweet bits.

    To us, we are programmers; To the world, we are magicians.

    Remember that your work will be appreciated in ways you cannot imagine.

    Gonna sound stupid, but I sometimes use food as motivation.
    I stir down at the start of whatever the task s I need to finish, I divide them and say,

    Ok after I complete these 3 I can take a break for lunch and watch the new R&M episode. Then after I finish these other 3 I can make dinner and potato till tomorrow.

    Works even when I have 0 motivation to wake up/get out of bed (like today)

    @Lyym come cook 😛
  • 1
    @NoMad omw with some ingredients 😋
  • 2
    @Lyym by which I mean there is a difference. You are a great cook and I am pure lazy 😜 which is why it works for you and not me.

    @NoMad *cries in Mexican burrito*
    How about this

    The more time you spend on your part of the project now and the more you complete form it. The less likely your idiotic project mates will be to change all your code when they start working on their part because they already have a baseline framework to work with.

    That will also prevent you some really bad moods, and the urge to stab some hoes when they want to change shit 5 days before the deadline
  • 1
    @Lyym oh, that will happen no doubt. I'm hoping it all helps the work becomes better tho. One of the projects, ngl, I'm lost. Like, staby stab for the proj-owner. MaThesis is still dead on the ground too 😭😭
  • 1
    @NoMad it does help. Plus if your code is awesome, they will most likely copy some parts of it as well if they need something similar for their part.

    As for the one you're lost on, instigate that MF till the instructions/work is clear. And if the person does not respond escalate it to whoever you can.

    I hate projects like those, specially when the owners ignore everything till 2 weeks before the due date. That's why you keep sending emails and saving them as proof cause if you go down, you drag them with you

    I can't decide between "Failure is unlikely, as it's not an option" or "the more work you do, the slower I approach your location to kill you."
  • 3
    @Parzi But the killer always walks slow and still catches up to the running victim.
  • 1
    @Parzi neither is good. Got anything better?
  • 1
    @NoMad Sadly, no.

    This post is a perfect way to demonstrate how inefficient procrastination can be and how some people can never climb out of the 'student's syndrome' where they need to be pressured by either deadlines, consequences or authorities.

    Just getting one's shit together and doing what needs to be done would grow a decent professional who does not require to be motivated by others - one would simply take the ticket and tackle the problem down.

    Now get off your bottom and go do smth useful for you as a professional. Go and grow yourself instead of wasting your life here.

    Like one guy once said: "imagine that you have a fixed number of keypresses in your life. Each keypress while chatting shortens your life by several seconds. Now think before you write a post or reply to someone in a conversation: 'is this the best way I can use my remaining life/keypresses? Is the gain worth it?"

    so quit wasting your keypresses here and go become a better professional in your field. Start with the problem in hand. Can you, as a pro, solve it now w/o procrastination? Let's see.
