1 month is hard enough to get through, 3 would make me make them fire me to get out of.

Works both ways. I've happily taken places with 3 month notice periods knowing that if they decide to fire me for whatever reason, I've got 3 months to sort myself out. And when leaving voluntarily, good jobs have been more than happy to wait the 3 months before bringing me onboard.

I don't really mind. I don't really mind taking my time job hunting and looking through all the options. If it's a shorter notice period I may not have time to get through enough applications to decide if I've made a good choice.

@F1973 The EU, unlikely. Big push to hire from within. The UK after it leaves next year, entirely possible on a points based immigration system (though if that's what they go with, and it's not completely arbitrary, which admittedly are two big ifs.)

@F1973 It's under the "guise" of fairness, but because it's so much easier to recruit inside the EU, you have to be a *really* stand out candidate to get all the way if you're from outside it. I'm lucky I'm in the UK tbh, I don't think I'd stand a chance if I was applying from elsewhere.

When the UK leaves the EU however, chances are that we'll need to pull in developers from other countries as there simply won't be enough - and then the process will likely be the same whether you're from France, India or Russia. So it'll be a much more level playing field if you're coming from outside. (FWIW, this certainly doesn't mean I think we *should* leave, it's just a side effect of us doing so.)

I tried to sum up the shit that is happening but it didn't make any sense.. in short we're trying to buy a house, have two more weeks to pay & the bank is screwing with us..changing their terms day to day, terms we discused a month ago are now not ok/enough etc.. so will probably lose the downpayment and the house if they don't sort shit out soon...
