I've never heard of the "existing file" error before. When is it supposed to show up?

@Lor-inc one scenario I am guessing is that you open system files without sudo. You can edit but can't save the changes.

@kiki And it falls in the 90% who refer to errors that either don't exist or warn about issues that generate errors in every sensible editor.

@notSoCoolGuy Even in such cases, you can still save it using the sudo tee command.
