Good luck! I bypassed Arch and went to Manjaro instead.

Ofcorse it will go well, after all everything will be done manually so you won't get any errors, if something goes wrong it's totally your fault... But you always got the arch wiki which has the answer to all your problems in arch linux... But i hope something goes wrong just so you spend your whole day installing it specially if the day is a weekend 😈

Test it in a VM first so you can snapshot 😅. The only tricky bit is having to install packages from AUR if they aren't available through pacman. But there is a wiki to help with that...

Easy with Manjaro. Just have to use yaourt 😉

@sam0 No! I got plans for the weekend!

@jirehstudios lol, good for you if you got in running in the first try, of course i was joking earlier 😜

@mrstebo There's a reason why both Arch linux and the AUR are manual installations though.
It's a learning process. In both cases, it makes you aware of what you are doing and teaches you what goes into making what you want to do.
Telling new users to "bypass" the install, and the couple first AUR manual install are not a service to them. They'll hit the brick wall someday, and that won't be fun then. Using the AUR blindly can absolutely fuck up your install.
And besides...yaourt, really? It's one of the worst AUR helpers, and the most insecure one.

@mrstebo @Synth-Synapses I forgot to mention I've installed Gentoo before. Those were a fun few days 😅

@jirehstudios haha alright :P Well if you have any problems, don't hesitate to log on freenode at #archlinux, there's a bunch of awesome people ready to help at most hours. :P

@mrstebo just install any AUR manager like your or packer on arch ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@LicensedCrime I never even figured out dual booting Ubuntu with UEFI. I understand why MBR sucks, but until I figure out how to coerce UEFI to boot properly, I'm using MBR.

@Synth-Synapses I used Arch first and I think I just saved a bash script somewhere that installs everything for me (with help from the wiki).
Yaourt has been fine for me. Works for about 95% of things I have tried. Sometimes you just gotta go old school and run through building packages yourself though 😅

@mrstebo yes but if you're able to automate it yourself, then that's entirely fine, you already know what you are doing. I was just worried it'd send a message to new and prospective users to use those tools right away.

Yaoury isn't bad at usage, it's in the features and the way it's constructed. Quick example: it sources the pkgbuild and install script directly before showing it to you. If there is executable code in there, it just started running. That's a really bad practice. You should check out the wiki for the aur helpers, there's a lot of info about this.
