ok googled it, looks like an onion, but only the unusuable part

You can use both the green and white part, it's much more mild than the typical onion taste wise.

Pretty famous is leek cheese soup in germany.

(Leek, tons of cheese, ground pork, a good stock and some seasoning)

It's the thing that you'll eat, feel fluffy warm inside and stay comatose for the next hours. Pretty great in winter. XD
