Developing on windows

Well, I don't particularly like or dislike it.
But once I see fucking C# amalgamated with XML I get brain cancer.

@rEaL-jAsE ever tried developing web applications on Windows that are supposed to run on Linux environments? The hoops you have to jump through just to get everything running sometimes is astonishing. Even if you manage to get things to work, there's a chance that the environment is going to be too different from production, so you have the classic "oh but it works on my machine".

Of course if you're working with .NET it's a different story.

@Redd Yeah... You're both taking about two entirely separate things. Developing Windows only programs isn't bad but trying anything cross platform is a non starter.

The best OS for development is Linux. macOS and Windows are trash.

@rEaL-jAsE That's nonsense (and some of the stuff you said are BS), especially if you genuinely think everything in Linux is broken... It's not; chances are you installed something broken or most likely didn't know what you're doing.
I've seen far more broken stuff on Windows than on any GNU/Linux distros I've tried, and I know that I'm far from being the only one who experienced that, having used Windows and GNU/Linux for more than a handful of years.

It's almost like you've been so accustomed to Windows that you think every OS should be the same. News flash: changing OS involves a learning curve.

And if you've ever tried to develop any software that wasn't Windows-centric, you'll know how harder it is to do on Windows compared to others.

@rEaL-jAsE I've used Windows for over a decade and have been coding for 10 years so I sure know what I'm talking about.

It's amazing how you ignore the fact that Windows has (and had) numerous issues that have never been addressed.

If you have to fuck with the bios (this many times) then you indeed have no fucking idea what you're doing and likely have spent less than a day learning how things work in Linux (which is quite common for newcomers who only used Windows and whine about Linux after trying to install and use it for a day).

What apps do you use?
Have you ever tried Wine? Mono? PlayOnLinux? Proton? Lutris?

And again, you seem to think GNU/Linux distros should work like Windows, as you found out, they don't and that's the way it is (maybe except ZorinOS).

You really should get out of that Windows mindset (being open-minded helps) and have some patience.

@redd man, this post made me remember my worst experience. Developing on Windows can be very...... interesting.

Try building a desktop application, with a UI. Bye bye Linux.

Heck Visual Studio community edition is free and one of the best dev tools out there.

In my opinion, Windows is the best for development. 😴
